Using Huel to Bulk and Over-consumption of Vitamins

I have posted my first experience and definitely seeing a skin improvement on my face. It is very useful for our skin.

My skin (chest, back) broke out in a pretty serious rash after two days on huel, and my face suffered horrendous flushing/itching too. Have had to immediately stop using it and my skin is back to normal after 24 hours. Another thread suggests an old school formulation of B12 may be the cause, but the Huel guys have yet to address my post on that thread. Guys? Would love to see this addressed as the two days I spent using Huel I otherwise felt amazingly well.

Hi guys

We are looking into this issue as it has come up a few times, it would seem. We are looking into the vitamin B12 forms and we’ll get back to you.

Hi, I think that 1500 calorie is just a basis for us. It is sufficient for our health. This calorie is good for increase the body fat.

Hi Blenks, very interesting read!

I’ve been with undiagnosed seborrhoeic dermatitis (falsely ignored due to acne symptoms) until I did my own research and showed my dermatologist photos of my irritations at various stages. I always wanted to try out gluten-free, but it’s so impossible. I’m so keen on trying Huel gluten-free to dispose of any potential risk factor. It would be interesting to hear more about your experience. Did you try regular Huel or Huel GF? Did the redness disappear? Did symptoms re-appear when consuming certain types of food?

I agree that food is likely the root source for various skin problems, such as seborrhoeic dermatitis, so I can’t stress out how cool I think Huel is and how much potential it could have in the context of clinical trials to better understand such diseases, allergies, etc… Please go for it, Huel!

Blenks, it would be great if you could share your experience in more forums, there are quite a lot of them. In terms of skin maintenance:

  • The most promising solution I read about and that worked for me for a while, was to use Apple Cider Vinegar dissolved with water 50/50 in the morning, which seems to reduce the increased malassezia on seborrhoeic skin.

  • Other than than there was a Canadian guy with a very interesting blog, who did some very strict diets on himself and ended up selling his own skin cream. Given that he was incredibly strict, it would be cool to give him Huel and let him study whether he can find foods that worsen his condition.

  • I also read about a new promising pharmaceutical, dermadexin, but the company (ciphar pharma) hasn’t gone to market yet.

  • In terms of moisturizing your skin, I felt relatively good with Nivea Soft, but it’s a bit fatty. In Germany (and maybe elsewhere), you can talk to the pharmacy and ask for the base solution that they use when they manually mix. Essentially they use a very mild base solution (contains little citric acid among other stuff) and just add the amount of active ingredient (antibiotics for instance), whatever the doctor asks of them. You can get it in bulk quantities if you can access orders through a hospital.

I go through phases off using Huel and I notice that a low calorie intake diet makes my skin deteriorate quickly. While dieting with huel in the mix my skin remains great. When i go through a phase of just huel as a food source usually when i have lots of huel stock and no money left I notice that my energy levels soar, skin is amazing and sleep is deep. Just miss those solids too much to go full time huel though.

You considered Huel Breakfast and Lunch and a normal dinner? I’ve been considering that.
