What do you do for work and play?

Curious to know more about my fellow heuligans here, what you do for a living and sports, hobbies etc?
I asked this questions on another forum I frequent, and some of the replies were totally unexpected, and some quite unusual.

I work as a supervisor in the transport industry. Depending on the depot I’m at, I can be supervising up to around 450 staff and up to around 200 vehicles.
Current hobbies are swimming, ice skating, hiking, and lightsabre combat - the farce is strong with this one!

I work as a lecturer in politics at a red brick uni, which is fun enough and I’m quite lucky in that I have a lot of flexibility about where/when I work.

In my spare time I run a not-for-profit community amdram group. We do three plays a year and have started taking shows up to the Edinburgh Fringe annually, so there’s a fair bit of work involved.

Apart from that, I try to run twice a week and do weights three times a week, and after getting rejected from the London Marathon ballot (fourth time in a row I think!) I’m going to work on beating my 10k pb and sprint triathlon pb (I am awful on the bike…).

Oh, and I spend a lot of time lurking on these forums…

I’m a biologist and did a PhD in sexual selection on breast colour of great tits (@hunzas this one is for you!). I studied how metal pollution influenced the breast colour of this bird and other physiological markers, to asses its potential as a biomarker for metal pollution. As the breast colouration is also used in mating and bonding, I also looked how this was influenced by the pollution, as well as general markers such as reproductive fitness etc.

Nowadays I’ve been working for almost ten years in a lab studying neurodegenerative diseases (mainly Parkinson and Alzheimer). As a model we use fruit flies and human cell lines. Not as cute as great tits, but easier to catch and study

Hobby wise, I love reading (62 books this year), walking, camping and medieval living history. I have a 2.5 yo son who however takes up most of our spare time, so I guess my main hobby at the moment is being a mom

Great idea this thread! Loving to read all your posts.

I am a secret agent and cannot say much more. I’ve a new film out soon called “no time to dye”. it’s about an ageing agent, who is so busy looking at great tits he has no time to change his silver fox locks into their former raven haired black, yet still manages to attract the birds with his hairy chest, twinkly eyes, raised eyebrow and Scottish accent that utter a few one liners along the lines of: “I like my Huel Martinis like I like my women, shaken not stirred” as he grabbles with a man with a pussy, metal teeth, a golden gun and a razor sharp bowler hat.

…and for play I look at more great tits. Any breast colour will do.

I’m a qualified RMN, up until last year I was working in a Cat B prison as a IDTS wing nurse (safely detoxing prisoners, responding to medical emergencies and any incidents etc…) It was a very difficult environment to work in - noisy, dirty, smelly (like Huel farts), drugs widely available. A lot of my time was used up dealing with spice attacks. Some days I miss it but I’m currently enjoying staying at home with my young kids whilst my husband makes the £££.

In terms of hobbies - not many these days to be honest. When I have free time I love to read, cook for my family, work out, watch sports, documentaries or beauty videos on YouTube!

I did drive through for a couple years back when I was a student, was forever getting in trouble for giving too many sauces away and getting caught making big mac’s with quarter pounder patties for lunch.

They reckon about 2000 hours learning to get the none germanic languages down if you’re an English speaker, stick with it :octopus:

I also worked at McDonald’s while studying, every other weekend. I actually liked it a lot back then. If course it was a part-time job and I knew it was only for a couple of years, but I had good colleagues and that makes all the difference I think. I can still tell funny stories from when I was working there and people love it. It also gave me a lot of respect for people working in restaurant setting and gave me a good insight in how customers can sometimes be… Ahum.

I worked in McDonald’s too. I’ll never forget the motto ‘It’s not a McFlurry if it’s done in a hurry’, or getting shouted at for putting too much ice cream in them.

Once the machine went berserk (or did I put the spoon on wrongly…?) and I had ice-cream, the lid, the pot and the m&m’s flying everywhere. Not my proudest moment

I’m a Continental truck driver, I drive an articulated enclosed car transporter and transport all sorts of cars from test cars to supercars to classic cars all over Europe. Every winter I transport test cars up inside the arctic circle in the far north of Sweden which is challenging but very different and enjoyable.
I spend 3 months away and then spend 2 weeks at home so have 8 weeks off at home a year with my lovely partner Trudi and our dogs. We have been together 24 years.
My hobbies are fitness, I have my road bike in the trailer so usually do around 100 miles every Sunday somewhere different in Europe, in the winter up in Sweden I’ll go running with spiked trainers or ride the bike on my turbo trainer inside my trailer.
I also like reading about health and nutrition and animal welfare.
Reading a good I book about Telomeres at the moment, very interesting.
Normally look on the huel forum every day and this is the only public forum I go on and I’m on absolutely no social media for many reasons.
I like the huel forum because it’s informative and can be funny as well.

It nice to see other people have worked for McDonald’s. I like everyone I work with. It’s just the customers. I work night shifts in Newcastle and for those of you outside England that may not of heard of Newcastles night life…
it’s hard to explain.
