Thanks Dave, really does make me wonder if I’ve had part of a bad batch, t00sp00ky on the V2 thread commented his seemed thinner than V1.2. Oh well, fingers crossed V2.1 is out soon :slight_smile:

That’s awesome, cheers James! I think most people love the changes in v2.0 bar the salt and fluoride and maybe that hasn’t been said enough - we shouldn’t want to go back, but rather make going forward as good as possible :slight_smile:

I also would appreciate a low sodium version. One of my only dietary requirements, is a low sodium diet. Huel makes that totally impossible. My sodium intake has spiked quite considerably since consuming Huel.

I also think you should say “Salt (equiv.)” in the nutritional information section rather than just saying “Salt”. Saying “salt” is quite incorrect, as it is not a measure of the amount of salt at all, but an extrapolation based on the sodium content. I found this very confusing on moving to Europe, as the EU has a broken system for labelling the sodium content of food. It took a bit of research to figure out what the hell “Salt” actually meant on labels. The UK is one of the few countries in the EU which I’ve found often labels it in a sensible fashion by putting “(equiv.)” in brackets like that, to indicate that it’s not an actual measure of the total salt in the product. This particularly makes it clear for those of us from outside the EU, who are used to the more normal measurements of actual sodium content, rather than these strange extrapolated values.

I just want to chime in and state I do not like that there is added salt in v2.0. Especially the amount added.

To me it is unfathomable how you came to make this choice. Salt intake is easily too high in our diets, not too low.

I am stopping my subscription until you solve this.

The more I read here on the forum about the different versions people would like, the more I come back to Malcolm Gladwell’s talk on Chunky Tomato Sauce. I believe it’s on TED, and he’s talked and written about it in earlier formats as well. Not everyone wants the same kind of catch-all product, and until this is adressed with Huel a lot of people will be on edge.

While I would second the concerns about the salt, fluoride and other things, viscosity is my personal pet peeve. I would gladly have paid the price for a two or three years worth of Huel of my preferred viscosity and fringe ingredient proportions.

Another con on the salt: I like to mix Huel with fruit. Have you ever made a fruit smoothie with salt added? No. Because it doesn’t taste good.

Yes, I remember seeing that talk. It was very good. It really did highlight the truth that you can’t please everyone, so it’s best to have different versions of a product targeted to different markets.

I don’t think the topic of having different versions to target different audiences is even relevant here, considering I have seen people responding indifferent to these recent changes, but none positive.

I could be wrong, but I believe if the added salt and fluoride were removed, no one would be disappointed and many would be pleased.

If I sound a little salty, it’s because I just had Huel for breakfast and realize I just had a big order which I have to get rid of somehow. Perhaps I can mix it with Joylent.

I would also encourage people to return it rather than keeping to mix with v1.2 or other products. I think they are more likely to respond to returns than to people complaining on the forum.

They only refund sealed bags - but I sent back my open one to try to make the point of how unhappy I was with it.

Postage can be expensive through royal mail so if you have more than 1 or 2 bags its probably worth looking at a specialist courier like myhermes.

Absolutely agree. This is not fussy nitpicking with everyone wanting a different thing. I never looked too much into the contents until they made it too salty for me to consume (based on taste alone) and I started to look into the numbers. They just need to remove the added salt and flouride.

I also got a lingering chemical type salty aftertaste from v2.0 which was much more artificial and stronger than anything I get from regular salty food. To me it no longer seems like a natural product. I hope removing salt and flouride would rectify this.

The DASH diet limits sodium to a MAXIMUM of 1500 mg per day. I think that would be a good point to use. It’s less than the current amount, but still within the range accepted as okay for those on a low salt diet.

Not too salty, not too unsalty. Just right, for most people.

Interesting. Can return ed foodstuff be resold? I dont think it can as it could have contaminated.

I might order a hundred grands worth of V2 and send it all back, until there is no more hahah

Considering I opened two bags already (I always mix vanilla and unflavoured since I think vanilla is too sweet), I can only return the other two.

Just shipping it back is almost a third of the price of those two remaining bags, so I will cut my losses here.

Hi Dave, what batch number were you on? Just had a reply from Huel about the thickness…

“Batch #2439 incorporates a new gum which is now in-line with the vanilla flavour. The gum is an emulsifier which keeps components well-mixed throughout the shaking and afterwards. The change was required as the old gum used was not allowing particles to stay together (it was considerably more watery).”
