I usually buy Huel A-Z multi vitamin drink because I believed it contains folate (L-methylfolate) rather than synthetic folic acid. I’ve tried the new Daily Greens ready to drink can and in the nutrition information it says it contains ‘folate’, but in the ingredients it lists ‘folic acid’. I am trying to find out if both or either of these drinks contain folate L-methylfolate rather than synthetic folic acid? Direct contact with the nutrition team by email has told me both canned drinks have always contained ‘folic acid’ and not folate /L-methylfolate, which is confusing…
Huel contains l-methyl folate not folic acid
“Folate – Part of the folate is of natural origin and comes from the main ingredients. The main source of folate in Huel products is calcium L-methylfolate, which has a higher bioavailability than the more commonly used supplement folic acid.”
(Source in German: Huel US)
Not sure if this is true for all Huel products - especially newer ones, so let’s hope for an official clarification.
I think the OP question was around the new Daily Greens RTD which says it uses Folic Acid while the other products say Folate so thats what appears to be the confusion.
I have been unable to get an answer from Huel as to why the Daily Green RTD says folic acid in the ingredients. My emails and WhatsApp’s are going unanswered over a week on, hence trying for an answer on here.
I have received an official response from Huel. They confirm that both the Daily Greens RTD and the A-Z drink both contain synthetic folic acid (not methylfolate). I was mislead by this because of their labelling and their article online about folate. I won’t be buying it again.
