Hol 'Canada's answer to Huel'

Feed has similar branding and a few others too. Do they all use H(u)elvetica?

Never heard of Feed before. Intriguing range of flavours: Chocolate, Red Berries, Vanilla, and … ‘Vegetables’ - described as being like a soup.

Huel should have a go at a savoury shake. :+1:

Hol Foods started out by plagiarising Joylents logo, then when Soylent slapped Jimmy Joy, they appear to have switched to Huelvetica. The website marketing is basically a direct copy, the packaging doesn’t look too bad a design - kind of a love child of Huel and Soylents designs. I guess, if you struggle to have an identity of your own, just graft someone else’s onto yourself

Heal which is a local / SEA brand went the same way and started life as a Huel clone but has since found its one branding and design with pretty nice packaging,

Oooft :fire:

There’s nothing wrong with simple branding:

If it was up to me, Huel bags would just say “Food” on them.

I wish I could just point to the big letters on the bag that would say Food (and then on the other side of the bag in smaller letters “made by Huel”) whenever people ask me what I’m eating.

Hol was Canada’s answer to Soylent, not Huel

Well, yeah, that’s their competitors. But Hol came out after Soylent but years before to Huel was known about stateside.

It was clearly inspired by Rob Rhinehart’s ‘how I stopped eating for 30 days’ (2013 Vice article) and the subsequent massive success of his Soylent Kickstarter - as was basically the entire Complete Food market that we see today.

Given the success of Soylent - and presumably rebranding if Slimfast etc - why and how did HUEL ever start?

because Julien was on a mission

That;s interesting - thanks. Out of curiosity, when Huel was started how did Julian think Soylent did NOT satisfy the market’s needs?

theres an article - for that too. Maybe a little out of date now but I guess thats where they saw the differences and gaps to fill.

Impressive - thanks

Soylent was not available in Europe, so that point doesn’t matter.

Loved having a look back to this article, Thanks for sharing @Phil_C

I remember the good old days when we received questions all the time about Soylent and asking us if we were like juice plus :sob:

No no no.
It irritates the life out of me when I see adverts for yfood online and every third comment is ‘if it’s food why do you have to say so’ or similar.

Ok… one of these is meal replacement and one is protein powder. Which is which?
