Huel and coQ10

Hi,

I think this would be a beneficial ingredient to add to Huel in coming versions. I would love some feedback from @JamesCollier and everyone else.

“What the heck is Q10?”

Coenzyme Q10, also known as CoQ10, is a compound that helps generate energy in your cells.

Your body produces CoQ10 naturally, but its production tends to decrease with age. (Typically past 30)

Health conditions like heart disease, brain disorders, diabetes, and cancer have been linked to low levels of CoQ10[1]

Other benefits include:

help treat heart failure by improving heart function, increasing ATP production and limiting oxidative damage.

The antioxidant properties of CoQ10 could help improve sperm quality and reduce the decline in the number and quality of eggs in women.

Supplementing with CoQ10 may also help decrease the risk of skin cancer.

Supplementing with CoQ10 seems to help prevent and treat migraines, as it increases mitochondrial function and reduces inflammation.

Exercise performance can be affected by oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. CoQ10 can help lower oxidative damage, promote exercise capacity and decrease fatigue.

Supplementing with CoQ10 can help increase insulin sensitivity and improve blood sugar levels.

CoQ10 plays a critical role in the protection of cell DNA and cell survival, both of which are strongly linked to cancer prevention and recurrence.

CoQ10 has been shown to protect brain cells from oxidative damage and reduce the action of harmful compounds that can lead to brain disease.

CoQ10 can reduce oxidative damage and inflammation that results in diseases of the lungs.

Gotta be honest, I’m not convinced…

Also sounds quite popular in the nootropics scene which I don’t necessarily feel comfortable with being included in Huel.

As you say, would be interested to hear @JamesCollier 's opinion.

Indeed, I don’t know much about it, wether the benefits are many or not in reality I am not sure of. It does sound interesting though, and as some other antioxidants have been added to Huel I suppose this could be another (if it deserves the hype it seems to have enough to justify it)… I imagine James is sitting on more knowledge

James C wasn’t convinced by it last time it was raised…

Thanks. I honestly didn’t think to search for it. Will do now lol

James’s opinion of it here:

Hi guys

This has come up before. The evidence is weak. of course, there are a number of other supplements that there is evidence for. But is this what Huel is about? Huel is nutritionally complete food. Huel ingredients should be nutrients and phytonutrients.
