Hey…if someone can guide me to the right article/thread that would be great as I can’t find the right one!
I had some bloods taken the other day and the results came back as having low iron…so I’ve been prescribed some iron supplements
I guess I’m being looked at closely because of my recent colitis diagnosis but I am finding it a bit odd cos although my diet has changed slightly recently…I’m still eating iron rich foods and I’m now having 1 Huel a day (for my lunch) and I’ve read that huel is particulaly high in iron?
If some one could point me in the direction of how much of your recommended daily intake of the vitamins and minerals are in a single Huel ‘meal’ that would be great
hi - if you go to the products page on the main website - there is a nutrition information section on each one (as well as ingredients) that will give you the information you want.
It’s not so much the iron (or whatever other mineral or vitamin in your diet that you might be low on), it’s how well you retain it. I had a problem 10 years ago where my kidneys started flushing away vitamins and minerals that should have been recycled (Fanconi’s syndrome - rare enough for me to be a hospital sideshow). Although I recovered from that I still have to take a range of supplements to deal with the damage done.
Huel is nutritionally complete at 2000kcal a day, so if you’re having one Huel meal a day then you are going to need to hit your RDI with your other meals as well. Huel can contribute, but it’s not going to give you all that you need in one meal.
Looking at iron specifically, Huel Powder v3.0 contains over 50% of the iron RDI but the absorption is affected by antinutrients so it’s around the right level. I think you’ve managed to find the article but if not we cover this in more detail here.
As a general tip, drinking tea and coffee with a meal can decrease the absorption of iron from that meal, so I’d recommend having those drinks an hour outside of your meal times.
yeah I was getting a little confused with my iron levels specifically (because of my blood tests) I thought I was eating the right sorta stuffs (plus 1 huel for my lunch) you raise a good point about the absorption. Apparantly my symptoms pre-diagnosis of colitis is highly likely to have significantly reduced my iron and no amount of iron rich foods (or huel) will sufficiently raise the levels…supplements for a little while!
only 1 coffee in the morning for me!..helps the morning movement!
