Both powders contain less than 0.05%, which is below the level of detection for the test that we use.
Thanks Dan. Iād been expecting that the oats in v3.0 would make a measurable difference, but if not, ok!
I agree with you.
I will say if this is in relation to gout that some people do see increased levels of uric acid, so Iād advise if you are prone to recurrent gout attacks due to poor uric acid clearance, to gradually introduce Huel Powder v3.0 into the diet to see how itās tolerated.
Iām currently on v3.0 for about 90% of daily calories, and having gout problems. I was hoping BE would maybe be a better option for me, but if thereās no difference between the two in terms of purine levels I suppose reducing my Huel consumption will be the only option.
Unfortunately I think thatās the best option and then see how you get on.
Thanks Dan, appreciate the advice.
Hello @epicure, did the reduction in Huel help with your gout?
hi Peas, happy to report no problems. Huel Black, two shakes a day and itās all good.
Iām actually feeling sure that my last gout attack was nothing to do with the Huel v3.0, there are so many other factors to consider. Stress is a possible trigger too of course; I remember the longest episode of gout I ever had was during a period of high stress. Iām sure that was nothing to do with diet.
With purines at <0.05% I wouldnāt have any concerns about going back to v3.0, but really enjoying the BE!
Thanks @epicure that is good to hear you are happy with BE.
I too have Huel BE twice a day but have just had my first suspected attack, really unpleasant. I have a blood test next week to confirm.
Do you substitute your diet with anything to reduce your risk? Cherries etc
Thanks
Sorry to hear youāve had a bout of gout Peas.
First time I had an attack I had a blood test and they said I was within normal limits but nevertheless it was gout. I was working abroad and drinking a lot of really excellent local beer at the time. Suspect my kidneys arenāt quite what they used to be.
Itās a pain isnāt it? To say the very least.
I know that cherries are supposed to be helpful, but I donāt take anything special. Iām just careful to limit gluten, sugar, and especially alcohol. I donāt eat meat or dairy anyway. With drinks I think the grape is safer than the grain, when absolutely unavoidable.
But regular exercise and reducing stress are very important I think, and lots of water always.
Thank you
This caught my attention - I had what Iād say was barn door gout 6 months back except my serum uric acid was below the normal range quoth my GP so discounted gout as the cause.
I love Huel - for breakfast, Iām on a tablespoon of original huel powder added to my Stoats porridge pot, cinnamon RTD for lunch and H&S for dinner with my ābonnie in the bowlā bag of steamed veggies. I take no beer. All a bit baffling.
Sorry to hear this and really interesting! I am not familiar with the phrase ābarn doorā - would you be able to provide any additional insight?
And howās everything been the last 6 months? Were you also including Huel prior or was the inclusion of Huel recent?
Let me know
Iāve heard the phrase ābanging like a barn doorā. Perhaps they mean that. May help them forget about the gout.
Sorry, we use the phrase a lot in medicine to indicate something so obvious no-one could mistake or miss.
Iāve been Hueling for 2 meals a day for 3-4 years now since doing the Fodmaps exclusion, using all Huel products over that time.
Iāve been seeing an osteopath since my 20ās (& Iām 55 now) for achy joints but this was a one off acute attack in a toe. Before Huel, I had impingement of my right shoulder which required 2 steroid injections. Iām just recovering from acute sciatica too.
IMO utterly unrelated to being so well nourished on Huel, just dodgy protoplasm.
My blood test came back within normal range. But it was ten days after my pain. I am not sure what to make of the results as the pain was very real.
Interesting, I had a few attacks of gout before and wowie is that painful.
I havenāt had gout since being on huel though, I never even thought it was likely to cause an attack actually, this article was an interesting read. I use Huel black though, not the 3.0 powder. I also take a multivitamin but I didnāt actually realise Vit C was meant to help fight the underlying causes of gout. Every day is a school day eh?
