Some People Just Don't Get It

I wonder what would happen if they gave prisoners nothing but Huel. Actually, maybe that’s a good way to test the effects of a 100% Huel diet. Test it out on the naughty people. Maybe they will feel so good they will be less naughty?

Marcus: Do you really want to make Huel the “Prison food”. Not sure that this is helping the cause to convince people to see Huel as something positive.

There was an amusing (to me) thread here about gruel and Huel a few months ago, this reminds me of that.

It doesn’t need to be branded as Huel, just served to them in bottles or cups with no logo on.

at 1.50 a 400 calorie serving maintenance weight for a normal bloke is about 9 quid a day, I can eat every day for less than that but if I was eating a proper balanced diet then I’d spend the same or more.

So the price point is right.

I had this discussion with someone the other day. And the only real analogy for describing Huel I could find, is baby milk.

I said that you give your baby powdered milk and you know its getting everything it needs to grow and develop. Well thats what Huel is - baby milk for adults.

I don’t think, when describing Huel to somebody you can mention its composition. For those who Huel would benefit most, words like Flax, protein, pea, carbs etc all sound alien. Protein is almost synonymous with gyms so I think that people go “huel = protein = gym = workouts = not for me”.

@Peter_Cowen that’s exactly how I feel about it. Without Huel I spend considerably less on food, but if I were to eat properly for my nutritional requirements and in a fairly healthy way, ‘real food’ would require more money and considerably more time than Huel. So Huel wins.

I find the price quite reasonable, certainly much more affordable than what I pay for Bertrand.

It might be easier to introduce someone to Huel by mixing it with milk first (or some kind of milk alternative for vegans). That would IMHO result in a much higher chance of success

Just as an update I’ve worked out that you can if you order on subscription in the 56000 calorie order to get 2400 calories a day down to 8.06 per day which for me Monday to Friday is 40 pounds a week, not that bad. Mind you presently I haven’t managed to stomach a full day of huel I find it far to filling, I’ve done 400 calories for breakfast and 400 calories for lunch the last 2 days.

Loving reading the posts here and starting on my Huel journey. I think of it in terms of cost-benefit analysis. Personally as a working Mum with rent to pay, the fact that I can get a nutritionally balanced meal down me for £1.70 is astonishing. I read a book once about being a business owner and it said if you can work an hour and earn £5, then pay someone to do your house work or take telephone calls for £2.50 an hour, then do it. Basically I ‘earn more’ by working, spending time with my daughter and having some ‘me time’ on Huel, than if I bought all the ingredients for a balanced diet and spent ages cooking and doing meal prep.

If I had a penny for every time I’ve heard the words “No, I like food”, I’d have 5p.

It’s extremely cheap in comparison to anything you can get in Sweden. (We have high food prices for no good reason)

I work in a school and an adult meal is £2.20. I had them for a year and put on 2 stone! Huel for lunch is cheaper and works well for me.
My wife is also a teacher and never has time for breakfast or lunch. She will not even try Huel, but has commented on how my body has changed even though the weight is slowly shifting.
I consume Huel and drive a 100% electric car. I find it hard to convince people to try either.

I could not agree with you more. People always say on our Facebook adverts that we are taking away the social aspect of food, this really makes me think. Have we become so addicted to the taste of food that we cannot socialise without it, in a similar way that many cannot socialise without alcohol?

I believe Huel can bring people together in a way that isn’t revolved around an addiction to the taste of food. I use Huel during the day for lunch, on my lunch break I then go out for a walk, do some exercise or meet with friends for coffee. I actually feel Huel brings me back my social life. Not everything needs to revolve around eating food. Also, because I am not fretting over making a healthy and balanced lunch for the next day in the evening, I can put in a huge amount of effort and enthusiasm into make an epic dinner! Like you say @Nevas_Mum, I am earning more from that!

Also, what was the book you read? I’m looking for a good non fiction to get into.

I think you should show us some pictures of your epic dinners, Tim

Tempting. My photography skills are awful though. I’m also not vegan, so as a Huel representative it may be wrong for me to share images of my evening meals, which are generally meat based or at least lacto-pesca-ovo-vegetarian.

I’ve just ordered my first batch of Huel a couple of days ago after having a conversation with my Mum about how I wish there was something like “dog food for humans” for convenience on stressful days. The baby food analogy will probably work better with other people, though.
