Huel Bar v1.1 Review

My review of v1.0 is here.

I have had v1.1 for a little while now, about 3 boxes, I decided to give it a few before reviewing again as I with v1.0 I found after the first couple of boxes, the consistency changed, not only did it feel like it had more moisture in it, but the bar itself was smoother and less fractured and crumbly. I was told by the Huel team nothing changed on their end, but the bars definitely looked better.

I’ll keep this one really short. Its very similar to the first bar. The added benefit of being gluten free doesn’t affect me, but I am sure there are people out there who are very thankful for that. There are just a couple amendments for v1.1:

The bar is much dryer, and there hasn’t been any improvement like with v1.0. Often the bar is already partially crumbling when I open the packet. Seems to have much more of a chalky texture. Not sure what to put that down to.

The taste is, as far as I can remember as I have no v1.0 for a direct comparison, similar but seems more bland. I find myself tasting something like vitamin powder or something if I chew for too long.

Still a good buy and I will keep my on subscription as they are invaluable to me on early days and commuting journeys. I would like to see some more progress though, I feel that this perhaps might have been a step backwards. I don’t want to dwell too much on the negatives as I know the Huel team are getting it in the neck about the new v2.2 powder (I haven’t ordered any yet as a result of the feedback), keep up the work and hopefully something clicks!

The taste is really horrible and bland. Most of the bars in the UK market have better taste compared. There is a brand from Ireland called Fulfil nutrition. The peanut caramel bar is amazing. The huel team should look into those bars and even have a cooperation maybe! http://fulfilnutrition.com/our-bars/

Those bars contain gelatin…yuk.

Milk protein, on the whole, tastes better than vegan protein. But we’re about a lot more than taste at Huel, I’m sure you know that and adding animal products to make a slightly tastier bar isn’t on our agenda. We’re working on the bar’s flaws but it’s important to note the bar’s many strengths including 26 vitamins and minerals, 100% vegan and added phytonutrients.

Thanks for the feedback all, especially the detailed review!

Should put this on eatcomplete

I’m not finding any difference between the new bars and the old. They’re both dry and fairly tasteless IMHO.

Twenny bars taste 20x better and cheaper. Huel bars don’t make me fart. I’m currently buying Huel bars, not Twenny bars. Farting at inappropriate times is not good

Last I looked there was quite a lot of glycerol in twennybars. They taste great, but you don’t want too much of glycerol in your diet unless, well, you want a laxative effect.
