We recently had one person on Facebook ranting that Huel was too high in protein, carbs and fat (and other complaints) in the same post and detailing his reasons why.

Market a special low protein, low carb, low fat version with all nutrients at 50%. Obviously this will be a niche elite product so the prospective consumers will expect to pay at least double the price per meal. You should still make a profit. Remember, the customer is always right.
Oh they’d probably really appreciate it if you could make the product more compact; maybe halve the bulk if you can think of a way. Again, the consumer will expect to pay for your additional research - they’re no fools & appreciate the extra mile you’re going for them. Give them the product they deserve.
Just sell dehydrated water, with an abundance of add ons so that people can choose their own version of Huel at a premium. Everyone happy.
Merry Christmas from Baby Santa.
I do not believe my questions were that unreasonable. I didn’t come in here just to attack the protein content, but wanting answers. Mostly the long term health question was dismissed which I still don’t think is very justified… It just seems like uncharted territory to me. Similarly with Soylent having 40% calories from fat, but such low saturated fat. Are there studies on people who maintained a diet like that for 10-20 years?
I’m trying to not be biased, especially if I’m drinking this drink for decades… I’m fine with Huel now. I can consume 1000 calories of Huel per day, after workouts, or a missed meal, and get the rest of calories elsewhere. It strikes a good balance for me.
I don’t know why your worrying so much. 30% Protein isn’t exactly astronomical.
You can see full well the results of a higher carbohydrate diet; an obesity epidemic, diabetes, and high blood pressure, etc etc etc need I go on…?
Okinawa diet is a counter example… 80% calories from carbohydrates, 10% from protein, and 10% from fat and they are the longest recorded living humans in history… Body builders and professional athletes of any kind aren’t exactly known for their longevity.
For you this 30% might not be significant, but for me it’s 300%-350% of daily recommended value. I know this daily value is intended for people who don’t body build or work out.
Anyway, I’m going to leave this forum. I’ve said all I have to say.
Well, there are plenty of powdered foods with less protein out there. Or you could mix in more oats in your Huel. Or you could just eat less Huel and instead eat more fruits and veggies. Getting more carbs in your diet is not that hard.
Actually almost all Huel competitors (blendrunners.com) are similar. With a few exceptions, they’re all low carb, high protein and high fat. I think the problem is the public and the low carb mania.
About adding fruits and veggies, it’s a good idea, but it takes some extra work because they’re perishable and they have to be peeled off. Veggies also are high protein. Oats must be soaked and have to be cooked and they also have protein. The only simple and widely available solution is to add some whole-grain bread.
“Add some wholegrain bread”
Great idea…Huel on toast.
Can we assume that this experiment failed? Or is Huel on toast far superior to blended Huel?
You’ve got issues
I think it could be the way to go in 2018…you heard it here first…one scoop Huel per slice. It’s gotta be better than Branston pickle Huel if you saw that experiment.
I’m after a keto/high protein/fat Huel! 2017 had some interesting studies science backing keto and IF. Everybody is pulling in different directions. I would say that there is a market for putting something out there that isn’t filled with oats as the primary ingredient.
Can you do Huel in the toaster?
I will let you know later when I’m toasting the new year.
I just LOL’d at all these comments so hard.
Nice to see you tried my idea and I hope it works for you. I had in mind the macro ratios but now that I think about it, I see that it may also work on the palatability. Do you also use spices in your meals? What spices you like most from taste perspective? I’m trying some curry but it’s weird for me…
I just like Spice [the drug]…unless bath salts are available.
Happy New Year y’all.
This got me thinking though…a slug of Kraken sliced rum in my Huel was a delicious toast to the new year…unfortunately the rest of bottle I’d drunk beforehand numbed the experience…and for christmas next year cloves onion bread soya milk and a few scoops of Huel towards the end of cooking would make a great bread sauce; a couple of scoops could be stirred into the stuffing mix and a few scoops into the nut roast mix. Huel could be added to your Christmas cake mix…fabulous…the Baby Jesus would no doubt approve. The Huel and bread and spice combos wil become the future. Cold sliced huel and pickle sandwiches on boxing day.
Bring out a diet Huel! Half the calories, proteins fats and vitamins, then market it at twice the price!
