UK RDA/NRV (etc) for all essential macro and micronutrients for different age groups

Hi Huel team

Hope you’re all well. As I’ve been using Huel its got me more aware of and interested in nutrition, both for myself and for my children.

I’m really struggling to find up to date RDAs (or etc) for the UK specifically for macro and micro nutrients. I thought this sort of thing would be forthcoming, but apparently not.

I wonder if you could point me in the right direction?

Hi John, it’s great to hear you’re interested in nutrition.

I really wouldn’t worry about the RDAs as they are for health professionals to then translate into actionable dietary advice.

You can find suggested daily requirements for girls and boys above 4 years of age near the bottom of our article here.

Thanks Dan

Are you referring to this reference?

  1. Dietary reference values for food energy and nutrients for the United Kingdom. Report of the Panel on Dietary Reference Values of the Committee on Medical Aspects of Food Policy. Reports on health and social subjects. 1991; 41:1-210.

This is what I’ve found in my research, too - but surely there are more up to date nutritional recommendations for the UK than 1991 - 30 years ago?!

Also the other reference link is broken, FYI:

Yes that’s the correct reference and this is what the current RDAs are based on. There’s nothing wrong with research being older for example we’ve known the requirements for vitamin C based off studies that are over 50 years old.

Some things in nutrition are pretty set and new research comes out but it doesn’t need to overhaul what we know every time.

Apologies this is the updated reference: https://www.nutrition.org.uk/media/nmmewdug/nutrition-requirements.pdf
