Yes I really haven’t understood them at all. They sound far better and versatile than I thought.

Yes, I would do a similar thing with my conventional oven…microwave first but I guess quite expensive in my gas oven for one potato. Sounds quite useful then. No wonder so many people rave about them.

How much did it cost doing solo huel tho?

Over £3k for sure for the year. The months RTD was out of stock hurt the worst because I had to continuously raid Sainsbury’s for days from the moment they put a smartshop discount on banana rtd. At some point I was basically looting them at £2.10 a bottle.

Unfortunately the order history still doesn’t work on the site and I also ordered from both the UK Huel site and the EU one.

Based on how many calories I eat a day I would estimate between 3 and 4k for the year, probably closer to 3.5. Would be more but the kangaroo hoodie is at no point in stock in my size (any of my sizes, man’s not male M, still :frowning: )

I live in London so I don’t consider this to be an egregious amount to pay for food, especially healthy food.

How did your digestion deal with it?
As someone who has recently started dealing with gerd & in general has the worlds most sensitive stomach I worry about the ramifications of that :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

As one of the lucky ones with no known allergies or intolerances my digestion never skipped a beat. When i drink more than 4-5 RTDs a day I get incredibly disturbing flatulence that lasts a couple hours. Huel essential does it as well but in smaller quantities.

Anything else causes no problems at all whatsoever. My stomach feels fine, no bloating. On about 2-2.5k kcal I get movement every day or every other day. On 1200 kcal it’s every 2-3 days. The consistency, and I’m sorry to detail such a thing but everything for science, is smooth and predictable. Lots of one-wipers. The amount of fibre helps tremendously; I have never had problems with the toilet but I’ve also never had such a consistent result of it either. I literally do not remember when my guts or stomach hurt the last time or I had a diarrhoea.

Got kids so I sometimes get treated to some bug they lug home from school or nursery. Not really this year, I would say this has been the year I’ve been the healthiest in all my life. Knock on wood.

Now the funny bit is going to be going back on other foods. I really really hope I haven’t become intolerant to milk, nuts, meat etc.

After I’d said something on facebook to the effect that cheese is the reason I’m not vegan, someone suggested the word “veganeese”…

Yeah cheese is a hard habit to break, maybe a transitional move to Dairylea Triangles or Cheez Wiz would help. Then there’s no going back. :woozy_face:

Violife is not perfect – but is a pretty good vegan cheese brand. I haven’t tried all their products, but the feta and cream cheese alternatives in particular are very good compared to their dairy equivalents.

According to the internet it is entirely possible to grow lactose intolerant after not having consumed milk for a long time. Great. Next time I’ll just drink my coffee with milk.

We aren’t capturing the true enormity of this possibility. My family is eastern european, I think there is no food on earth that cannot be made better with sour cream.

Meat, eggs etc I can do without. Even milk I substitute with almond and oat milk anyway(when outside of 100% huel). Nobody mess with my cheese and sour cream tho.

Is that Glastonbury High Street?

FWIW, after years living in Australia and missing adequate (read Eastern-European-style) sour cream and “twarog”, I’ve started making my own. I just use a spoonful of crappy store-bought sour cream as a starter. Not only it’s pretty easy, but I tried just swapping milk for soy milk and it turned out very good. And I read that it’ll work the same for twarog (will try soon).

I don’t think I’ll experiment further towards more complex cheeses, but I thought it’s curious that these first steps are so simple and good without milk but store-bought vegan cheeses are usually abominable.

I have to give this a try, if this works with soy milk you may have just replaced much of my milk consumption.
