Advice for 40 days?

With Lent coming up, I’m thinking of trying to go all-in and running a bit of a fast by making Huel my daily meal. I’ve gone a day or two like this, so I think that my digestive tract is ready, but one thing that worries me slightly is whether doing three shakes a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) is really going to be nutritionally enough complete. I am looking at reducing my calorie input, so I don’t particularly want to go up to 5, which would be 2000 calories, but that seems to be the level at which you’re actually getting the recommended daily intake of vitamins and minerals. And yes, I know I probably don’t routinely hit those metrics, but a part of my brain is saying that consistently missing the same sets of minerals and vitamins might not be the best idea.

Because my wife is big on supporting the local fish fry, I will have at least one (probably less than ideally nutritious) meal per week.

Sounds like a good multivitamin/mineral supplement will help. You might still end up being short on something or other, but maybe you could make that up with your one regular meal per week.

Looking at the % for the vitamins etc on HUEL Black RTD …. On three Huels a day what would you be missing out on?

The RTD is based on a 2000 calorie intake, however most people use the RTD as a way to fill in the gaps in their diet alongside their regular intake. In your case, the RTD per day would only be 1,200 calories, which is not enough for most adults for their Daily intake. In terms of the fasting, would you be able to share what the parameters are? Such as, are you looking to only consume Huel for the 40 days, or if you are not consuming food during certain times of day? Also feel free to send us an email team@huel.com if you wish to chat more one on one!

My wife has countermanded this fast on watching if that is would make her responsible for leftovers. I’m compromising by using Huel as my morning drink, and once or twice a week in place of eating out.

No one can guarantee that you won’t lack something. There is a lot that is still unknown, the role of “real” food may be also to make the body antifragile, that is like training a muscle: By stressing something for example a small amount of “toxins” the body’s immune system gets trained and improved over time. That is something from newer publications. And no one knows whether there might be still unknown micronutrients. At least nothing bad will happen in the near future if you do what you do know, so if you feel better with it it is ok, don’t worry too much.
