Experiences, Goals and a Recipe

Hello everyone,

Thought i would share some of my experiences since supplementing my awful diet with Huel.

A bit about me… well first off lets get the facts out of the way

  • 28
  • Male
  • 6ft (1.81m) and 11st 9lb (74kg)

I live a very inactive life, generally the most exercise i get daily is walking from my car to my desk at work, then back again. You know you’re leading an inactive lifestyle when even your phone is disgusted with your sedentary ways.

I am also a very fussy eater, so i don’t think i have ever had a balanced diet since i was a small child, but that’s a story for another time. Give you a quick idea of my current (wait… old ) eating habits; breakfast - nothing, lunch - chocolate bar, bag of crisps, dinner - something meaty, usually accompanied by that miracle root vegetable the humble potato in chip form. This poor unvarying diet, really turned me off food, so i would have little appetite and when i am hungry its little and often as i get fed up chewing… yeah i have problems.

So on with the experience, ordered a weeks worth of Huel Vanilla, unpacked it as soon as it arrived and was eager to start ingesting something healthy. It smelt pretty tasty so wasn’t overly worried about the taste. Followed the instructions and mixed 2 scoops of Huel with 500ml of water in the shaker bottle. I have to say, (this is the personal opinion of someone who has essentially lived on sugar for the last 15 years) it tasted awful, but i persisted, something hopefully i would get used to. However when getting to the last few mouth fulls i decided to just neck it, get it over with, unfortunately the shaker left some lumps which made me retch a lot.

Have to say at this point i was concerned, seems that whenever i try to get my self sorted something comes along to kill my motivation.

So i began experimenting, and the perfect Huel shake was born (at least for me).

  • 500ml Semi Skimmed Milk
  • 2 scoops of Huel
  • 1-2 teaspoons of chocolate milkshake powder (others flavors probably work just as well)

Throw it in blender, once nice and blended, throw it in the freezer for 30 mins, this step is important as no one likes warm milkshake.

So there we go, i am now on at least 2 Huels a day and have to say i am feeling a lot better than i have done in a long time. Sleeping better, feeling more energetic, the goal for the future now is to keep up with the Huel, increase my calorie intake and start building back muscle that’s wasted away over the years.

So thanks Huel for the opportunity to be healthy, thanks to everyone on this forum for posting their experiences and recipes.

Dan

I prefer a lot thicker shake (means more powder). I use about 3-4 scoops (~120gram) for 500ml water. Haven’t tried it with milk, yet, but i guess i will give it a try.

I can highly recommend the pancakes from the website. These are awesome, too.

Great to hear you are “feeling a lot better than I have done in a long time, sleeping better, and feeling more energetic”.

Here are some tips.

  • Try Huel with just water, or a blend of water and milk - experiment to see what suits you.
  • Experiment with different amounts of liquid to see what thickness you prefer
  • Make sure you take the extra calories the milk provides into account
  • If you like sweet things maybe add a sweetener in the short term then wean yourself of it slowly - there are both zero calories - xylitol and stevia
  • Try cooking with Huel - http://huel.com/pages/cooking-huel
