Has anyone seen this weeks Spectator front cover?

If you’re reluctant to use a meal replacement because of what your friends think, then you need to take a hard look at yourself. It’s your life, do what you want.

It’s an opinion piece. They’re sort of one-sided by nature.

I tend to agree.

I’m reluctant to tell people but not reluctant to use it - I started a week ago. The reluctance stems from the attitudes on display in the article (which is why I commented). Not everyone has the brass balls to just do what they want without thinking about how the people they respect and care about will react.

But hey, thanks for the warm welcome and unsolicited advice. Keep up the good work!

It is, but it kinda suggests pretty blatantly that Huel itself is a symptom of hyper individualism, as opposed to just something that these kinds of people but into, but as a minority (hopefully - either way, no evidence is given otherwise) of the customer base.

It’s still nothing to worry about it, but only because the only people who are really paying attention to this article are the people who already think Huel is an exercise in stupidity anyway, admittedly I thought the same thing when I heard about these liquid meal brands…

You agree with the sweeping generalisation itself, or you simply agree that I summarised the article’s description of men in the Me Too/Trump era?

The latter.

If you scratch just behind the rant, here are the key takeaways for the reader:

Associations to Huel:

  • ‘Clean living’ -Cutting down on smoking and junk food, trying to live a healthy
  • Vogue magazine
  • Love Island - most popular show of the year, viewers with Huel demographic
  • Environmental and sustainability
  • Technology and innovation (Steve Jobs, Elon Musk etc)
  • Self-discipline and self improvement (mindfulness, yoga, meditation)
  • Support from renowned psychologist Peterson who has become famous for helping men in society
  • ‘stronger, leaner and a lot sexier’

Arguements against Huel:

  • Men are becoming too soft
  • Men aren’t allowed to say sexist things anymore
  • Trump and Weinstein are anti-Huel characters
  • Huel stops you being a slob

I’d say we did pretty well out of that :ok_hand:

Ha ha, yes, but the tone just got right up my nose! I’m not even a bloke but I felt kind of hurt as though we Hueligans had been personally attacked :slightly_smiling_face:
