Histamine

I’m going to have to try a low-histamine regime for a while at least, and Huel will be a big part of that… As far as I can see, most Huel RTDs will not be a problem, but Dan, you said a while back that you would check the bars and let us know whether or not they are also low in histamine? I suspect they won’t be, but hope I’m wrong. What about the Hot and Savoury and pots?

It’s been a while since there have been any posts about this topic. Has anybody recently tried going low-histamine using Huel, and was it effective? If so, how long before you saw changes? I realise that particularly in this area, which is less well understood than many other conditions, everybody will be different, but it would be motivating to hear of any success stories … and useful to hear otherwise also.
Thank you!

Huel products do contain proteins derived from pea. Whilst peas may be high in histamine in their natural form, as Huel uses a pea protein isolate, almost everything else, including histamine, is removed in the process. According to third-party histamine testing, histamine levels are below levels of detection in Huel powders and Daily Greens, with the exception of coffee-based flavours.

We’ve had all our grain-based Hot & Savoury flavours tested for histamine, which have come back as either low histamine or below the minimum level of histamine detection. As our Hot & Savoury range is expanding quickly, we’re looking into getting the rest of our flavours tested too. While our pasta and noodle-based flavours are unlikely to be high histamine, for extra assurance in the meantime, it would be best to suggest sticking to those grain-based flavours.

We currently do not have a histamine test for any other products, but again, we’re looking into this, including for our new(ish) Complete Nutrition Bars.

While most Huel products may be low in histamines, it’s important to note that histamine liberators and diamine oxidase enzyme blockers may be present in Huel, which may also trigger symptoms in people with histamine intolerance. Different foods may trigger different individuals, so please consult the ingredients list and your doctor before consuming Huel if you’re concerned.

Thanks Amy, that’s very helpful. I just wish I knew whether or not the bars are low in histamine.
