Huel version 2.0 is now live!

My last five bags were different bag by bag, I know because I went on Holiday taking an unopened bag with me. It was completely different to the bag I had on the go at home. Of the five I had one super-runny, two super thick and two that are OK. They have added the gum they put in the vanilla which explains the thickening but the inconsistency is a new thing - perhaps the gum just settles out in the processes. Being a small business I would imagine stock control, storage and the contracts with the manufacturer are all optimised to make profitability as high as possible, which means changing formulae is probably more a matter of timing than decision. Dumping existing stock or changing the manufacturing early in the versions life cycle may be prohibitively expensive.

As for salt content, Huel has actually prevented me from consuming a vast amount of crisps, snacks and salted nuts - Iā€™d imaging my intake is still lower than it was - that and Iā€™m only doing 1450 calories a day might help

Many of my bags have had total different consistency and even flavour

Really makes me question their stock control to be honest

I assume that Huel is packed by hand rather than machine which would probably explain the inconsistencies. Humans are pretty crap when it comes to being consistent. :stuck_out_tongue:

Iā€™ve had to start mixing batch 2476 with 500ml of water and 2 scoops, 7 times a day.
Its still lumpy, but not as much, if I put 3 scoops into 500ml of water.

I got my delivery today, batch 2484. Will mix some up for tomorrow and see how it is.
EDIT: Mixed one up and consistency seems the same as 1.2. Will keep in fridge and have it for lunch.

Had mine for lunch and tasted like V1.2 so not worried any more. All my bag from same batch so hopefully all the same.

Well I got another 2 bags of V2 and it is a gloopy thick disgusting vile mess. God knows wtf has happened here.

So thick you can barely even pour it out of the beaker into your mouth.

If you did a blind test no two people would believe it was the same product or version.

Mine is slightly thinner than V1.2, obviously some quality control issues somewhere.

Yeah my first two bags seemed slightly thinner and slightly more salty than v1.2.

These 2 bags of gloop are ghastly.

Huel might I return the unopened one?

If your previous batch was before 2439 it had a different gum mix, it changed with 2439 to bring it in line with vanilla consistency apparently. Having never tried vanilla in 1.2 or 2.0 I canā€™t confirm if it does indeed match, I am finding I need more water though.

I was using 450ml of water with v1.2 and with the first 2 bags of v2 UU.

This stuff with a full beaker of water is so thick its unreal and never mixes right, and gives you dodgy guts.

I accidentally ordered Vanilla v2 and that was a slightly thicker than v1.2 UU, nothing like this second batch of v2 UU.

And that is mixing it and drinking it instantly.

I concur with this experience. Such a shame. As if the salt level was bad enough! Iā€™m on Gluten free v2.0, received 2 new bags end of last week. Itā€™s thick like snot and tastes like glue. There are 2 types of gum and carageenan in this, and the gum etc was never there before. Google Carageenan; it can be destructive to the digestive system. These ā€˜gumsā€™ are the 5th main ingredient, but the packaging does not say how much is in Huel. So I have no idea how much Iā€™m consuming, and above a certain amount even the gum can be harmful.

Huel has gone from making me feel healthy, to containing salt and artificial stuff like the gum and carageenan, and now I feel a bit rubbish after drinking it.

FYI spooky: if you shake up the bag, it helps a bit - at least makes it drinkable. However the lack of response from Huel regarding the salt issue was irritating at first, but now the ā€˜weā€™ll tell you tomorrowā€™ rhetoric is bordering on looking like arrogance or complacency.

For now Iā€™m switching from Huel to another company, I might check back in a few months to try version 2.1 - but there are other products out there that are essentially Huel, minus the salt and the gum, which is what I want.

Yeah I have the Gluten free UU too.

I have mentioned Carrageenan numerous times on this forum and provided peer reviewed studies all to no avail or even response and asked James numerous times why as he claimed Gum Arabic was a ā€œgood callā€, did he remove it and replace it with the likes of Carrageenan, all also to no avail.

Seems like this forum is just for the users to interact with each other and the Huel staff to poke around answering random stuff but not answer or even respond to the things that they post or say regarding important issues!

If its T-shirt size problem theyā€™re on it pronto! If its a question regarding why they removed what they themselves say is a ā€œgood callā€ or anything else similarā€¦

No response.

Quite pathetic really.

The best bit about mumsnet is the tantrums.

There is no point in arguing about Sodium Fluoride and salt as long as Huel Team is refusing to give a reasonable argument of why they decided to do that. In my opinion the best option is to switch to other products. From my research Nano V2.0 might be a good alternative and Iā€™m waiting for my first batch.

Completely agree with you.

Urgh, I tried Nano and didnā€™t like it. Very sickly flavour. Not nice.

Plus thereā€™s so much packaging waste with Nano, itā€™s one pouch per meal right? Others like Mana are nice but they still go by the old method of having a separate bottle with an oil blend you have to mix in - so much waste plastic!

A major part of Huelā€™s appeal is the bare minimum packaging waste you produce by having no separate oil blend and a big bag that lasts nearly a week!

Come on Huel, your loyal supporters are still loyal, just rather disappointedā€¦ :frowning:

And now you have me googling carrageenanā€¦ fuckin hell, does anyone have anything remotely neutral to say about this? Cancer links from as far back as the sixties?

Yay emulsifiers!

Yeah it is the pits.

It is also used to cause inflammation so they can test new anti-inflamatory drugs.
