Mark posting twice in one week on the forum? No you are not dreaming
We recently launched Huel Diet Powder, which is our first product specifically created for weight loss. Diet Powder has been going well, and as such, we decided to bring in a new, exciting flavour for you all to try, so introducing Huel Diet Powder: Vanilla Matcha!
Matcha flavour was one that we launched in Japan not too long ago, where it has had an overwhelmingly positive response. As such, we wanted to bring this special flavour to the U.K. for you all to try. It still has the same great macros as diet. Quick overview of those below.
We hope you all get to try this flavour, and definitely let us know what you think as we have other ideas coming in the near future of course, any questions drop āem below
Interesting. I like matcha; what I donāt like is that I just placed a big order last week, so donāt need to order anything for a while. Iāve not actually tried any diet Huel powder yet.
Have you tried it @Mark_Huel and if so can you taste the matcha?
I appreciate it is a bit of an acquired taste; I usually drink mine in a latte with oat milk (Iāve recently been using powdered oat milk (oops Iām not allowed to say that am I, as it doesnāt involve removing baby calves from their mothers so we can steal their milk) as trying to cut down on my UHT cartons) and frothed with a whisk, with a little coconut sugar to sweeten.
Excellent @Aimee_Huel Iāll get some in my next order when ever that is, canāt justify making one right now having just done so last week.
Having said that I donāt really need the diet option so would be more interested in a āfull fatā optionā¦is that something that could be in the pipeline in the future if diet is a winner?@Mark_Huel
Have to say, this is probably my favourite flavour of anything Huel, ever. Helps that I find the Diet powder easier to drink and finish than normal Huel anyway.
That being said, if thereās ever going to be Matcha or Mint Chocolate Huel Black, Iād be up for that too
Ok, so today I tried the Matcha diet powder. I knew straight away that it was going to be a bit too thin for my liking so decided to have one scoop in 325ml of water, and I left it for a few hours (although not overnight as I normally do) to thicken, and I donāt think it has thickened much if Iām honest. It certainly mixes well in the shaker.
Itās still a bit watery in my opinion.
Anyway, upon opening the bag I straight away got a hit of matcha smell which was a good sign, and it does have a very slight green tint, but once it was mixed it wasnāt as green in colour as I was expecting, in fact more grey/brown..
Taste wise itās really great, itās not ruined by being too sweet (i generally drink my Huel powders as a 50/50 flavoured to unflavoured to dial down the sweetness, but this doesnāt need that, and the vanilla taste to me is more like that of Huel original (which is my go to).
Very impressed on the taste if not the texture, so will try it with a bit less water tomorrow, although my suspicion is, the less water will make it less satiating.
As @Larking said, Iād definitely be up for a Matcha Huel black (or Huel white). Only my first try but itās a lovely flavour profile (if you like matcha).
I like to mix my diet powdered Huels with varying combinations of milk and water. Mostly 50-50 to achieve a consistency I like. Do you imagine the Matcha Vanilla would taste nice with a 50% milk base, or would it ruin the flavour?
I donāt think milk would ruin it at all. I donāt drink dairy milk but i used to make my regular Huel in part with milk alternatives (that was older iterations of Huel, which had fewer thickeners). I may actually try that here. I drink matcha in a latte with powdered oat milk (or regular oat milk) and I think it may actually improve it with Huel matcha. I wonder if you could drink it warm too.
I havenāt tried any other of the diet Huel powders.
I started with the recommended 500ml of water to the one scoop. While slightly watery, I was fine enough with the Banana and Vanilla diet powders. But I also made them the night before and stored them overnight in the fridge.
I then tried the normal powder Chocolate Mint as I wanted a more milkshake style drink. However, I found using the recommended two scoops of this with 100% milk was far too thick, so I toned this down to 50-50 water/milk (250ml each) and also dropped the scoops to 1.5. Much better.
I then tried the 250ml/250ml water/milk combo with the diet Vanilla and Banana powders (1 scoop) and really enjoyed that even more. Takes the edge off the thinness of the water. I have tried 25% milk and 75% water and that works fine as well to be honest. But always I am using 500ml of liquid.
Ah, ok, thank you. I do find I prefer to refrigerate my Huel overnight, but decided to try this after just a couple hours. Using 100% (plant) milk is definitely too thick in my opinion with regular Huel. When I used to used to use a combination of milk and water, I agree it didnāt make too much; I just assumed it was the gums in the plant milks that helped to thicken it, but from what you say itās the same with dairy (I assume you are using dairy). Iāll experiment a bit more over the coming days
Yes dairy milk. My conclusions are always 500ml of liquid.
A ratio of 75% water, 25% milk if using 2 scoops of normal Huel, otherwise 50/50 and 1.5 scoops.
For Diet Huel, prefer 50/50 and 1 scoop. But 75% water and 25% milk still works OK. Depends how much I want to save money!
Will buy Matcha Vanilla on my next order. I always try and have at least 3 powders on the go to give me the variety as they are my lunchtime meal. I prefer the diets as the cost per meal is so low.
I guess you need to make sure you are eating enough calories though; I donāt think Iād use Diet Huel all the time as Iām not trying to lose weight but itās good for a snack type meal, and the better nutrient profile for lower cals make it better than just a one scoop portion of normal Huel.
So I tried making the matcha with some powdered oat milk and indeed for me the texture is now much better as it has thickened it. Iāll experiment more, but for my preference I still think that one scoop and 500ml liquid will be too thin. (I used 300ml).
