Successfully navigated my business trip without going over my calorie limit, I just booked room only (no breakfast) at the hotel, took my Huel, shaker and trusty hand mixer with me, breakfast Huel in the room and made up my lunch Huel to take with me. It was so easy to do and much easier than trying to navigate calorie counting with unknown menus etc like I have in the past.
Cheeky little weigh this morning before I head off to Torquay and gin-sabotage for the long weekend, another 1lb gone which means I’ve now lost a stone! Yay! Plan now is to try and maintain when I next weigh on Tuesday.
Sunday, and so far so good. With the help of some exercise and keeping to my normal Huel breakfast and lunch I’m staying within my calorie limit.
Dinner is 3 courses, from a set menu of 3 options on each course, so while I’m trying to be careful and I’m skipping dessert because I want to maintain my current 1 stone loss (not a hardship as I’m stuffed by the time we get to dessert), it’s much richer types of food than I’m generally eating at home and higher in fat content. I’m finding that an hour after dinner I have an upset tummy and urgently need the loo (I’ll leave the rest to your imagination!). I guess my body just isn’t used to eating this way any more!
Had anyone else found this? Does the body become less used to/intolerant of a higher fat diet after a while?
I enjoy the occasional meal out but only have a small main meal, couldn’t tolerate any more courses as I would feel uncomfortably full. I find I no longer crave sweet or fatty foods since I’ve been on Huel.
My previous diet was take-away food 3 or 4 times a week, I’m having certain issues after such
meals now as well. So yea, I think the body doesn’t want it anymore
Thanks all, I was surprised at the effects, and glad to know it’s not just me! By Sunday morning though I seemed to have switched to the reverse effect, bloated and blocked, to put it simply, and quite uncomfortable, so hopefully lots of water and peppermint tea will put me right again.
Weighed this morning and 1lb back on, which I’m not surprised about firstly because I’m blocked up and secondly because I was so exhausted last night that we had takeaway pizza and red wine for dinner! Hey ho. Back at work today and a return to normal routine should see it disappear again fairly quickly.
Just goes to show that what you eat, not just sticking to a calorie limit, makes a big difference.
Usually I have 3 scoops of huel a day supplemented with fruit and yogurt and a normal low cal dinner. I’m never ever hungry in the evenings, which is one of the reasons Huel has been working for me, because hungry me = zero willpower. Today I went to visit some friends who have just had a baby and invited me for lunch, and I definitely didn’t feel I could be picky about what they gave me, so I had my normal 1 scoop huel and banana for breakfast, then 2 ham rolls and a piece of red velvet cake for lunch (I should probably have said no to the cake but I thought hey, I was under my limit yesterday, I’ve exercised this morning, it’s a small piece, all good. It wasn’t until I scanned the pack that I realised that small piece was 400 cals… Ouch). By 8pm-ish I wasn’t really hungry, one scoop of huel would keep me in my calorie limit for the day, so I had that. By 10:30pm I was STARVING. So much so it caught me by surprise and there was no way sleep was an option with my stomach thinking my throat had been cut, so I had a banana (could have been worse, the biscuits were calling), but it has put me over my calories which I’m disappointed about. More careful food choices needed in future, obviously. Hey ho, onwards and downwards!
Well done, you’re doing really well! And about the calorie thing, I’m always amazed how Huel can make me last all day - I think it just goes to show Huel does have what your body needs when it stops the hunger alot more effectively than a meal does sometimes. Some Sunday’s I have soup and toast for lunch just for a change and will be hungry by 3.30pm and totally regret it haha!
Pretty pleased with how well last week went, I have to say. I have managed to keep up my lunchtime walks, not every day admittedly but I managed 3 out of the 5 days and then on Sunday a 4 mile walk! I’m going to be compromising my image at this rate!
No real logistical challenges to navigate last week though, this week might be more difficult. I’m away on business for a night tomorrow but no dinner out or anything, and I’ve already proved to myself that I can business-trip armed with my trusty Huel, shaker and hand blender and be fine. What will be more of a challenge is that I have friends coming for the weekend, although (thankfully from the diet point of view) only staying Saturday night; this is a group of friends with whom an evening spent would normally involve a lot of gin, port and cheese! Planning on evening meal being something healthy, but after that it could be messy… still determined to lose a lb or 2 this week though, and will give myself some wriggle room with 2 fasting (600cal) days this week.
I know how hard it can be, I think weekends are the hardest. I think during the week it’s easier to have a routine but on the weekend theres always something different happening so it’s harder to plan in and keep good!! You are doing well though and I’m sure a treat after your healthy meal with friends on Saturday won’t hurt your progress too much! I’ve found that you have to allow yourself a treat now and again or your more likely to fall off the wagon. Think it’s even better if its planned in and you can look forward to it knowing you are being good for the rest of the week!!
yes definitely, I try and plan for treats and use fast days sometimes so that I can enjoy myself without it having too much impact, it seems to be working so far
Yeah, I find this too especially more fatty foods - i am needing the toilet within an hour.
I am also finding that I am fuller a lot sooner than previously, it is as if my stomach pouch as shrunken. On the odd times I get a Chinese take out with the wife, where previously I could eat a whole portion to myself, I find I am content with about half to 2/3rds now. When wife cooks, I seem to be eating less than my 12 yr old son…
I definitely think our stomachs shrink, I eat way less than I used to but still feel full, and when I do eat a big meal I can’t eat as much as I could before
Such a flat out busy day today that by the time I got home only 460 cals consumed, normal healthy dinner eaten and still loads of calories left, so I decided to crack open the Lindt white chocolate Easter egg I was given which has been sitting on a shelf since Easter. I’ve had about 400 cals worth and now I feel sick. Oh how my body has changed!!!
I am keeping away from the sweet stuff as much as I can, yes, I have had the odd cube of chocolate and a couple of biscuits but feel that its like a ‘drug’… if I have too much, regardless if allowed in my calories, i will get too much of a taste for it.
Plus, historically, if I opened a bar of chocolate, I cant just take a few pieces, i eat the whole bar.
Wow wow wow, another 5lbs off on the scales this morning! I’m beyond thrilled!
Successfully navigated both a night away on business last week and friends over for dinner on Saturday night (mostly because we were all so full we didn’t get to port and cheese haha, plus was sensible with alcohol). Now at Castle Combe racetrack for a day at the racing, picnic lunch so armed with my Huel and a tub of raspberries
Congratulations! That’s fantastic. You must be really pleased.
It’s years since I’ve been to Castle Combe. I was born in Trowbridge and grew up in Chippenham so I know it well.
