In a (noisy) coincidence – the wheezy Philips blender retired with a bang and a small puff of smoke this morning – so followed your lead and replaced it with something a bit more meaty.
Picked up an end of line display model in a local store sale, so no box or instructions, but half the price. Not quite the all-conquering wattage of yours but it came with two 2 litre Tritan jugs and 2 tampers so enough to make 4 shakes at a time.
Not quite as well made but also not nearly as noisy as the Tefal, despite going up to 32,000 RPM. Drinks are super smooth and - weirdly - not frothy like I usually got in the other blenders.
I had a nasty accident with a tamper and a Vitamix a few years ago. My blender is stored in a corner of my kitchen, even though I use it regularly. One morning I moved it over to where I plug it in, and plugged it in. The tamper was in the jug (loose) as rubber lid stored elsewhere. I neglected to notice that the power switch was accidentally set to on…needless to say I blended the tamper. The force was so great it actually fractured the tritan jug as well. Quite and expensive mistake. Frightened the hell out of me too.
I don’t used the tamper for liquids, but I do store it in the jug, it’s the obvious place for it…but I always check it is powered off now. Obviously I put the rubber cap on first, then the tamper it wouldn’t happen but I always think if it is slightly damp then it may smell bad and so don’t put the cap on for storage.
