Does Huel contain FODMAPs?

I’ve been doing some online research about my gut problems and one possible thing could be FODMAPs triggering some kind of IBS-like symptoms.

FODMAPs is an acronym for

  • Fermentable
  • Oligosaccharides (eg. Fructans and Galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS))
  • Disaccharides (eg. Lactose)
  • Monosaccharides (eg. excess Fructose)
  • Polyols (eg. Sorbitol, Mannitol, Maltitol, Xylitol and Isomalt)

This article is pretty good.

Is this something you’d find in Huel?

I’ve been close to 100% Huel for a couple of weeks now and my gas problems were getting out of control.

Today I’ve not had any Huel at all, and now I’ve got no gas problems - my this time of day, after 600g of Huel, it’s usually off the scale!

While on the Huel I was getting about 150 to 200 g of protein a day, where as before, it was more like 50 to 100g. Could that be it?

The bad gas has problem I’ve had since before trying Huel, but the Huel definitely didn’t help and seemed to make things a lot worse.

I’m going to see a Dr in a few weeks but in the meantime, I’d like to still try Huel and not suffer from bad gas problems.

Any nutritional experts here?

Thanks!

It’s interesting because I get far less gas when I have Huel. I get more gas when I have solid food.

It might be worth taking a probiotic for a while.

Thanks. I have bought some probiotics so will see how they go.

Although in one article I linked to, its says its not a good idea as if you already have a problem, they can be adding more fuel to the fire, so to speak.

They suggest Digtestive Enzymes might be better?

Its ironic that I feel better in that department on a junk diet than I do on the relatively healthy Huel diet

I’m going to stay off the Huel this weekend, so taking a 3 day break for it, then maybe restart on Monday and see if the break helped.

It says on the nutrition page that Huel is “low in FODMAP constituents”. I’m not sure how much that actually helps…

Thanks! Should’ve checked there.

But yeah. Not sure how helpful that is for me.
