Gut issues with Huel

I’m reading a lot about gut issues with Huel which don’t settle down after a reasonable adjustment period. I wanted to comment that I developed an intolerance to oats after overdoing it with the oat milk a few years ago and I’m wondering if some of you are getting the same problem by overdoing Huel containing oat. My symptoms were flatulence and loose stool. It took me a long time to figure out what was going on because I’d never heard of oat intolerance and just thought they were a great food and tasty milk replacement.

I have actually developed intolerances to lots of things in my middle age. My own experience with Huel ( Black edition, oat free) is that it gives me wind and causes palpitations. I’m going to give it a break then try again on a really small amount per day. Bit pointless as it won’t replace a meal, but at least I’ll use up the bag and hit a few nutritional needs.

Oats are weird. I find Essential isn’t as easily digested as Black, which I figured was due to the oats, but I can have Black poured over rolled oats three times a day with no issue. Maybe something to do with speed of absorption? ie fine milled oat powder might be faster to absorb? I don’t know.

Nope. I’ve had Huel pretty much every day since 2017 with a scoop of 15g oats blended in and have no issues at all

I’m sorry to hear you’re having digestive issues though - that’s never good.

Thanks - I’m glad you have a good experience. I guess what I meant was it might be useful for some people to consider whether the issues they’re having could be attributed to a problem with oats.
