Hot & Savoury - Bland?

It doesnt excite me, for sure. I bought same, and i am a bit worried i won’t like the tomato. BUT i have to say, i now have some work but it’s odd hours, and coming home to something healthy and HOT is great. I dropped a bit of hot sauce in it whilst it was “cooking”.
I’d buy the Thai again. For me (i earn less than 12k pa) it’s expensive but the alternative is not to eat when i get home so it’s worth it.

I’ve tried 3 meals of it so far hoping for a result, but none of them have had any flavour on their own. I’ve thoroughly mixed the bag each time, I’ve scooped from the bottom up etc… but just tastes of nothing. I must have a faulty bag if no one else really has this issue, but I wasn’t willing to open another bag to find it’s the same. The 2 unopened pouches were picked up on Friday to return because it’s a lot of money to waste.

Also had to have a covid test at the weekend which came back negative, so it’s definitely not loss of taste/smell :joy:

I’m with the OP on that one - TGC is spicy, yes, but it doesn’t have much of a taste otherwise, and I find myself wishing for a more flavorful version of H&S that doesn’t pull its punches.

That said, the good news is that Tomato is better on that front and it does have a distinguishable flavor. It’s not at all spicy and not very herb-y, but it’s easier to add punch to Tomato than to try to add flavor to TGC.

Overall, both H&S varieties beg to be flavored with something - be it tabasco, Maggi sauce, soy sauce, or whatever else floats your goat.

I bought some TGC and the T&H to have at work and have just made my first TGC.

I love TGC and don’t find this bland at all. I don’t tend to eat really hot/spicy food so maybe that’s why but I certainly don’t find it bland compared to TGC that you would buy from a takeaway. I did mix the bag really well first.

I do feel that I want to add ‘something’, paneer or something but that’s more from a ‘mouth feel’ point of view than because it really needs it.

So far I’m sold

Damn, I genuinely don’t get that. Particularly with TGC I can taste the wonderful kafir lime leaf taste! It tastes like any TGC I usually have! I’m sure you would have guessed, but we of course are working on more flavours… :male_detective: so I’m confident we’ll land on something you love.

Other flavours? Very interested!!

Table spoon of dried chilli flakes, lots of pepper in both flavours.

For the tomato I also added smoked paprika & some Worcestershire sauce. Did the trick. Dried basil would also be good.

I’ve seen people suggesting adding half a stock cube. I would imagine veggie stock would go well in either flavour, chicken in the Thai curry and beef well with the tomato.

I am trying tomorrow, but I have four bottles of Peri Peri sauce waiting in the refrigerator in case it’s needed. I like using it for nearly everything.

I’m trying it right now - 3 scoops, 600kcal. I like the texture of the tomato and herb. It tastes like mild and watered down Indian food. Not a bad thing - I like chewing for a Huel meal. It does lack bite. Peri Peri to the rescue. The blandness is not horrible, just a shortcoming. Knowing there is no garbage in it to give it a bite satisfies me.

Have not heard of Peri Peri before. Thanks mate - I’m off to buy some. Do you have a fave flavour? Love spicy sauces! My current favourite is Yellow Bird Habanero out of Austin Texas (I’m in US).

Peri Peri is pretty common in South Africa I know. You can get it with various degrees of heat. Enjoy!!!

Try Regular Franks hot sauce, only need a few shakes of it, also I’ve used these meals combined with broccoli, spinach and carrots all chopped down so its mixed in (just tip out mixed huel meal from cup onto plate once mixed) the chopped veg is like a replacement for rice and feels me up more than just huel meal on its own (becomes like a nice veg curry)
