I think the answer might be to make it much more watery to start with. Might try again tomorrow with as much water as it will safely hold.
That’s very interesting…and I thought it may be something like that. See what it’s like later
4.30pm - just right to eat. Thick but not too thick. Stayed pleasantly hot, not burn your tongue hot.
Looks good to me. How much water in total do you think? Also did you use scoops or scales?
I used 2 level scoops (the scoop that came with it). Didn’t measure water, just poured on boiling water to cover it, then gave it a stir. At 2pm again added enough water to make it a bit sloppier.
Will do the whole thing again tomorrow. Same timings but will measure the water this time and add as much as I can at the beginning.
Excellent. Do you think it was still good compared to eaten when recently made?
Perhaps someone else can get involved so “Discourse” doesn’t get arsey.
Well to me it is good eating either way. A bit thicker than made right away but equally enjoyable as far as I’m concerned. I will certainly do it again, say make it up at breakfast to eat at lunchtime.
Yes would be good to hear from someone else.
Ok. 11.30am 2 level scoops TGC into Thermocafe followed by 300ml boiling water (or just off the boil as I poured it into a warmed measuring cup). This meant the flask was almost full, leaving about an inch gap under the lid. Will check, as before, at 2pm.
Edit: 2pm looks and tastes fine. Put lid back on until 4.30pm
Edit [2] 4.30pm virtually no change in thickness. Good eating!
Trying same with T&H
As before, 2 level scoops + 300ml boiling water. Start time 12pm.
Edit: 2.30pm stirred and tasted, very thick as expected but not congealed type thick as it would have been had I put in normal amount of water. Tastes fine, ingredients much softer than freshly made. Actually prefer it this way. Unable to add more water as contents expanded and size of flask won’t allow. Will check again at 5pm. Sorry, no photos this time but no real need. I think you get the gist.
Edit: 4.55pm, near enough. Thickened up a bit more but still ok to eat. I ate some and added a small amount more water, roughly 50ml which made it a bit less stodgy. Tbh I much prefer the TGC made this way.
Last edit: Couldn’t eat it all I’m afraid
far too filling.
Interesting. Wonder why more filling and why different result
Yes would be interesting to know why T&H soaks up lots more water over time. By the end of the 5 hours it had expanded right to the top of the Thermocafe whereas there was still some space left with the TGC. Been an interesting experiment.
Fwiw I managed to eat about three quarters of it then had to chuck the rest away. Had to have a good drink afterwards. Probably felt more filling because it was so thick. Maybe more dry ingredients in T&H?
T&H definitely absorbs a lot of liquid – I used it as a base today to make a vegan chilli and it really soaked in a lot – it’s great for me because I like my chilli quite dry, otherwise you’d have to keep topping it up with water or stock.
Dunno. I’ve never really noticed the difference when I make it up and eat it soon afterwards
Nice to know.
Stills little undecided re. buying a flask
Tried my first Hot and Savoury today. Like others have said the TGC was quite watery but the taste was good. Not too spicy (thought it may have been hotter as some have said), and using the pot was handy. During Covid I have been working from a garden room at the end of the garden so popping back to the house to make and then take back is ideal for me, I probably left it ten minutes but it was still piping hot, probably needs 5 mins with top on and 5 with it off. With winter coming I wasn’t looking forward to cold shakes for lunch, this is ideal, Looking forward to trying the Tomato and Herb tomorrow, Well done Huel on this alternative.
at least you got one cup
maybe those non-UK fellas will get some soon. Plastic’s gone out of stock recently.
I suggest these jugs, too:
And these bowls:
(900 ml - 1000 ml seems better to me, as I plan to prepare 700 kcal of H&S meals)
I took a Thai Curry out to a meeting in a thermal pot. It had been made around 5 hours before it was time for lunch. It was still warm, not hot, and exra mushy, but perferectly edible and tasty as ever
And I guess if you just add twice the amount of water than usual, and make it in a decent quality thermal travel mug, you’ll get a hot Thai curry soup for lunch
Cheers, I guess I’d better get one then.
This is the thermal pot I have
