How to reach ketosis but stay nutritionally complete?

I’d like to try ketosis, just to see what it feels like and if it helps with mental focus etc.

Anyone tried it?

I filled in the calculator on Keto Gains (I put in maintenance / body recomp as my goal), and for me (95 kg, 185 cm, 25% body fat), it recommended:

  • 1,762 Total Calories
  • 182 grams of protein - 41.32 % Of Calories
  • 20 grams of net carbs - 4.54 % Of Calories
  • 96 grams of fat - 54.14 % Of Calories

(There’s no way I could live off 1762 calories :joy:

Unless keto makes you feel fuller? )

I looked at this page as suggested by James and it said:

Ingredients per 100g
  • 50g Huel Black Edition
  • 50g desiccated coconut
Method

Put 500-600ml of water in a blender, add ingredients, blend well and consume.

100g Provides
  • Energy 555kcal
  • Total Carbs - 26g
  • Available Carbs - 16g, 12%TE
  • Protein - 25g; 18%TE
  • Fat - 43g; 70%TE

But that is 16 g available carbs for 555 kcal.

If I had 2 of those (1110 kcal) that would be 32 g of carbs which is more than what Keto Gains recommends.

I tried another keto calculator and it also recommended 20 g of carbs.

So is it possible to get that low carb with Huel Black and still get enough protein?

Would it be better with Huel Protein?

I’m sure I’m missing something here but can’t see what!

Cheers

Just one more word to keto-diets: What they allow depends on your goal or motivation. If you just want to loose weight and maybe be less hungry on average the cutoff is not as strict as in other cases, like keto-diets for the prevention of epileptic seizures (there is some evidence that ketone bodies are protective against them). In that case the cutoff is much tougher.
