It’s clear that there’s a slight difference in texture, it appears to be somewhat smoother which I personally find quite pleasing.
In terms of thickness it does seem to be slightly thicker too, and whilst not only easily manageable by altering water ratios, this actually worked out better for me - I used to mix 4 bottles each evening for the following day and store in the fridge; approx 1250ml water and 200g Huel in a blender divided by 2 of my bottles, repeating for the second 2.
Around the same time as the introduction of Huel Powder v2.2 I started regularly consuming Huel Bars, 1 a day between my 3rd and 4th Huel shake, to help with staving off late afternoon snacking. Obviously this has upped my calorie intake so I’ve been looking to redress this, and the solution is now simple:
Blend the same 1250ml water but now with only 175g Huel Powder, spread across 2 bottles (repeated again to make 4).
The upshot of all of this is that my Huel Powder intake is reduced by 50g/200kcal per day, allowing my daily 250kcal Huel Bar to roughly make up the difference, and the shakes at this ratio are the same consistency as they were with v2.1 @ 400g per day!
As helpful as they are, I feel like a few of these replies giving advice on how best to mix are sort of missing the point a bit… my problem with 2.2 is that I was able to mix previous iterations absoultely fine with just water and a shaker. I got lumps but they weren’t too big, or ‘gluey’. Now, with 2.2, the consistency doesn’t seem to be the same, and while I might be able to get round that by mixing using a different technique, or with a different powder:water ratio, I don’t want to have to change how I mix up a food product that I subscribe to! I was happy with how it was before
So the issue for me isn’t that I was never able to mix Huel satisfactorily, it’s that it always worked fine before, and now seems to have changed for the worse.
I just started drinking Huel. My first 2 bags are 2.1.
I actually found it more enjoyable to make it up and put it in the fridge, because it’s cold and a bit thicker. Being thicker makes it feel like more of a meal. So if 2.2 is thick without having to plan ahead to put it in the fridge, then that’s a +1 from me!
I’m not finding the “just add water to make it thinner” suggestions useful. More water does thin it but it still has the gloopy consistency that I find hard to swallow. It makes me feel a bit sick.
The problem isn’t just the thickness, but the texture - extra water doesn’t solve this.
I’ve also found that there is a gloppy consistency to my huel shakes with 2.2 where there are large lumps (even when I’ve shaken as best I can). it’s meant that some of it goes wasted. Even with just 3 scoops and 500ml.
I’ve actually preferred the latest version, although I’d put that down to the fact that I’ve been using a stick blender instead of the shaker (lost it). I’ve got a new shaker coming tomorrow, so I’ll give an update if that suddenly makes the consistency worse than before, but otherwise there are definitely those of us who prefer it now.
By the way, I use ⅓-⅔ vanilla-unflavoured, or the other way around depending on which flavour pack I’m using.
Managed to get it to mix with 2.5 scoops with 500ml water in the shaker, but it’s somewhat watery, and far from as thick as I like. I think I’ve worked out the problem - you need more water now to get anywhere near a similar thickness to the previous setup, and there simply isn’t enough room in the shakers that you get sent in the first place to do 3 scoops/500ml. 3 scoops/400ml that I was doing before to get the right thickness just doesn’t have enough water to mix it with in the shaker.
I wrote a few posts earlier in this thread about the porridge consistency of blend > chill > Thermos with ice.
I never used the Huel shaker because it never worked for me so have been a stick blender since v2.1 Today I made a change. Instead of the 900ml container that came with my blender I used a 2.5L Food container. Blended 10 scoops to 1.4L for v2.2 (it would have been 1.2L for v2.1).
Shock, bloody horror, it didn’t thicken up, didn’t get gloopy, and poured out 6hrs later the same as I made it. No idea why the bigger container fixed my gloopy issues.
Only difference now is that I need to use more water. Based on this completely arbitrary observation, I’d suggest a bigger mixing container (not a shaker) will offset the clumping issues with 2.2. I know it doesn’t help the shakers, but damn, what a difference for me.
For me 2.1 gave constant and painful acid reflux but 2.2 gives me no reflux and I love the texture and consistancy, I find the Vanilla too sickly sweet and the U/U just is not for me just didn’t like it but after experimenting my shake mix is }
1 scoop vanilla
1 scoop U/U
Half tsp of favouring (chocolate or banana)
500ml of Water
I usually make them the evening before and make up enough for between 3-6 shakes whizzed together in a blender then portioned and kept in the fridge overnight.
6.5, it’s 76gm & 308kcals per shake. I work shifts and quite often have long days so I like to fuel small and often so it’s not unusual for me to have half a shake at a time at hour and half intervals keeps my blood sugars constant and cuts cravings totally and I’m never hungry.
You love the texture and consistency, but you’re mixing with a Huel to water ratio that doesn’t have enough calories per meal for the 4 meals per day standard that Huel aims for (or that a ‘regular’ user would need per meal). Also, you’re blending the 2 varieties of Huel to achieve that texture.
I can’t help wondering how many other positive users are giving 2.2 (and 2.0 onwards) the thumbs up without giving us the extra usage information that you have kindly given us?
I also prefer the 2.2 is the lack of acid reflux which from reading on the forum is a big problem for a lot of people and for me I was starting to think I might not be able to continue with Huel but now with this mix i can continue with it, the moment I’m 100% Huel due to ease and convenience.
I do prefer 2.2 overall as I did get acid reflux from time to time . I also worked out that 2.5 scoops per 500ml is about right to alleviate the gloopyness
