Prior to version 1.2, this and many other flavors were a real treat. It’s definitely not just you, there are multiple posts on Reddit and even on this forum, including this one I created: Huel Black v1.2: better or worse? - #33 by Mark_Huel. I was having one or two shakes of the Black Edition V1.1 daily and enjoying every single sip, but ever since the update, I just can’t stomach them.
I had mostly given up on them until yesterday, when I stumbled upon a few bags I had stashed away while cleaning. I decided to give them one more try. Cookies & Cream, in particular, used to taste like fresh Oreos with actual cookie crumbles in it. Now, the best way I can describe the taste is fatty mulch with the faintest hint of cookie flavor. I had to throw the bags away and came back to the forums, hoping the Huel team had finally fixed this—but it doesn’t look like it.
What saddens me most is that their social media team will, of course, never admit to lowering the product’s quality. Instead, they lean on arguments about taste being subjective and claim that the changes were based on customer feedback. (I had several “Hueligan” friends, and not a single one had an issue with the taste of the Black Edition before the changes.) Oh well.
