Yeah that was my point. They changed the Value range to Stockwells, Rosedene Farms, HW Nevill’s Bakery and the like. All totally fake. HW Nevill’s bread even says ā€œfirst baked 1872ā€, but it’s a flat-out lie looking at the ingredients list.

So Huel could do that! Tim’s Olde Patented Health Powder.

They actually still make those products but under Everyday value name; and those other brands are just ADDITIONAL fake brands which I think (could be wrong) actually came to be after the Value/everyday value rebrand. I just Googled and I think that happened over a decade ago - I was surprised, I thought maybe 5 or 6 years.

I think Everyday Value has been almost completely phased out. I do my parents’ (legendary cheapskates) shopping in Tesco every week and I don’t think I’ve ever picked up an Everyday Value product. It’s too uncool!

Hey guys, just thought I’d throw in a few cents here.

The pot design confuses me as to the overall feel and, at least, the former ideology from Huel on focusing on savings, which is why the pouches and the reusable pots makes sense.

I just did a bit of math and each pot takes up 573cm^3.

I measured the volume of the contents by vacuumpacking it, volumen comes out to 200cm^3 on the dot using measurements from water displacement method.

So each meal pot ā€œwastesā€ 373cm^3 for ā€œairā€, vs just vacuumpacking each meal in a bag.
Vacuumsealed food of course isn’t very visually appealing on a store shelf, but I would wager that those using the H&S pouches would be ok with this if it meant loosing the disposable pots and saving all that space on packaging, boxes etc. it would also eliminate the need for scooping as each pouch would be a meal, and ingredient ratio can be matched perfectly.

If you don’t want the vaccumpack look, it could be something like this:

Either way, I feel like continuing down the road with your users, that you have taught to make a meal in your reusable pots is a good thing, moving to individual pouches in terms of plastic use I would assume is a very small increase, compared to the current pouches, but hey, don’t take my word for it, let’s do some math:

Each pouch contains 7 meals of about 100grams each. They vary slightly from version to version, but I think we can agree on this average and the Chick’n and Katsu is 106g and 101g per pot respectively.
Each pouch is:
Height: 28cm
Width: 24cm
Plus additional 5cm in height used to create the ā€œbottomā€ so it can stand.
It comes to: 33cm * 24cm * 2(sides) = 1584cm^2 for one pouch.
In comparison my vacuumpacked tester is 10cm * 10cm * 2, so 200cm^2.
7 meals vacuumpacked uses 1400cm^2 vs. the normal Huel packages, with a little room for optimization as I just tossed the ingredients in there, if you could fill the spaces with the powder, you could probably do better, but I digress.
So, vacuumpacking is slightly better in terms of plastic use compared to the regular Huel pouches with 200cm^2 plastic to 226cm^2(per meal, 7 in a pouch), but admittedly looks a lot worse, however probably would help in the conservation department, giving each meal a longer shelf life vs. pots or even just open pouches.
If we were to try and achieve a look for single servings as the big pouches, it would add rouhly 2cm extra in length, meaning 10 * 2 * 2 = 40cm^2 extra, bringing the total plastic use to 240cm^2 versus the 1584/7 = 226cm^2 from the regular pouches compared on a meal to meal basis, but I would assume that this more than makes up for it when it comes to volume savings - read on :sweat_smile:

Now let’s talk shipping and volume for the current pots.
Volume of each box of 8 pots is 11cm * 20cm * 40cm = 8800cm^3
8 pots volume is 573cm^3 * 8 = 4584cm^3 that means that 8800cm^3 - 4584cm^3 = 4216cm^3 in a box is air and in each of the pots there is, 372cm^3 * 8 = 2976cm^3 air. Combining that with the air in the box, that means that 2976cm^3 + 4216cm^3 = 7192cm^3 out of 8800cm^3 in each box is air or roughly 82%.

If we translate those numbers to a standard euro pallet, each pallet can hold roughly 168 boxes of product( L-1200mm, W-800mm and H-1600mm), with each box containing 8 pots. That’s roughly 1.536m^3 and of that 1.26m^3 is just air.
If we compare that to pouches, which I assume has a very low number when it comes to space wasted in packaging, let’s just try and say that the pouches are wasting 20% of the space 8800cm^3(box) / 240cm^3(volume of meal + 20% waste) * 168(boxes per pallet) = 6048 that’s meals per pallet vs. the current 168 boxes * 8 pots per box = 1344 meals. That’s huge! and definitely something I think should be considered.

The above is just rough numbers and perhaps you can’t pack the new proposed single serve pouches as closely to match above numbers, but they should be indicative that pots isn’t the way to go when trying to save cost and increase your transport performance. Also to note I am not calculating material thickness, so everything is just rough measurements of the outside packaging.

Doing it this way also gives you the option of doing samples without worrying about transport breakage as much.

Oh yes Superblend’s design is really nice too – only suggestion about DG and SB would be higher res designs. Looks beautiful from afar, but is verrry blurry/low res – text is crisp tho (send me the background image and I’ll upscale it beautifully for a choc caramel bar :wink: ). Curious to see how the range division plays out, and for a future UK 400 kcal Superblend-like powder :star_struck: :crossed_fingers:

Hah aha love your rogueness. Glad variety boxes are on the cards. Those US flavours look deliiiicious. Looking forward to trying a v2 pot and new flavour whenever they arrive!

That instruction is for the folks who’d lose the lid whilst pouring boiling water over themselves, and not realise the noodles will cook just as well if covered with a saucer, a folded tea towel, or any old thing. I reckon.

I finally tried the pots - only ordering the katsu flavour - and I really like it! Had one for lunch yesterday (they arrived in the morning) and again for lunch today. First time ordering the mix and match bundle and I’m so glad that’s an option now. The pots will definitely be added into rotation, especially as I no longer order Mac ā€˜n’ Cheeze.

If there is anything I could add, price is definitely important here. At least in spain its a no go for the price.

I was surprised for the design complaints. But I agreee, plain and white design for a savoury noodle its not the choice I would have taken. But this is very difficult to choose in the design phase and its very easy to see after it is launched, but not before. Now you now :slight_smile:

I wonder what the real reason that the pots are in two new flavours is when there are already six or eight or however many flavours already in production.

Perhaps so one does not cannibalise the sales of the other?

Perhaps. I wouldn’t have thought it would make any difference to existing customers but would have a wider appeal to new buyers but I’m an idiot so what do I know.
I initially assumed it was to hide the shocking price being charged for a cardboard pot but 40p isn’t wild so it’s not that.

I wondered how this could happen, until last week I was stirring with a fork after a rather stressful morning at work… Next thing I know there’s curry sauce all around the pot on the kitchen table at work. Luckily my H&S pot was nearby, so I grabbed it and transferred what was left. Then just put the lid on and waited for it to prep H&S style. Luckily nobody has paid attention to the slightly yellow stained table.

Moral of the story: stay away from the instant meal pots while stressed.

I actually now always now decant my instant meal pots into my h&s pot. It works perfectly, so a shame you can’t buy the pots in a sachet form.

I absolutely love the fiery chicken, even if I have to turn my camera and mic off during video calls while I slurp my lunch with tears streaming down my face. I will admit I’m not a militant hueligan and prioritise convenience and taste above everything, but one of these for lunch after RTD for breakfast is perfect for me at the moment. I really hope there are no drastic changes to the recipe - the katsu curry is pretty good but I genuinely crave the spicy version.

Both together would be 800 kcal for two meals. Are you on calorie restriction? If yes, for how long has it worked?

I bought the Fiery Chick’n Noodles, but was not impressed. They’re particularly pungent, and I even had to seal them back in their box with tape to avoid them stinking my apartment out. I see most flavours are gone now, but if they come back, I’ll likely try some of the others later. The concept is good, but that flavour didn’t seem good to me (or my girlfriend, who did have a few of them).

Yeah, I’d be buying more if they were sachets. They could reduce the price as they no longer need to make the pots, and shipping would be far less costly due to the significantly decreased footprint.

Currently, the box is large while technically 2/3 empty, just air. The contents could be in a small thin sachet, with 8 sachets taking up even less space than the small Complete Nutrition Bar boxes.

Then the black pot is promoted with it. If someone wants to take one camping or to work or whatever, they just put a sachet inside the pot before leaving, then when ready to eat, open the pot, rip open the sachet and prepare it like normal. Saves so much money and space for Huel and customers, and is much better sustainability-wise. Could even store multiple sachets inside the black pot for long trips!

Every time I’ve had one of these pots, I could have easily just used a bowl or brought my Instant Meals pot with me and used a sachet instead, having a far better experience without the flimsy, frustratingly-designed (and IMO, boring) pot. Sachets would be fantastic.
