I quit using HUEL months (or maybe years?) ago because the taste was too sweet for me. I am now a satisfied customer of Jimmy Joy, whose powder is very thin and only slightly sweetened.
I am interested in trying Essential. Has anyone compared it to JJ Active? Is it still sweeter? And how does the thickness compare?
Hey @vanquish welcome back! When you had Huel did you try unflavoured and unsweetened or are you after a flavoured version which meets your sweetness taste buds?
Many people temporarily use the products of other complete food companies, or are customers at different companies simultaneosly, often to mix different price levels, which not always but often indicate the quality that is provided.
At least for the German market many companies recently increased their prices, unlike Huel (at least so far), which makes the latter more competitive here again. But still it is not that popular, as it does not taste like junk, but more “healthy”, so many people don’t like it for a longer time. Here the local brand yfood is mainstream, maybe also because their RTDs are milk based, taste like junky milk shakes and are available in most supermarkets, even small ones. There was a time when they were cheaper, they don’t add additional antioxidants or phytonutrients, and the vitamin and mineral dosage is quite low, just the bare minimum per 2000kcal just from their products. But marketing, availability, convenience and taste are perceived as superb by most. But honestly it is just a slightly fortified ,very expensive milk shake with a relatively high protein content. And maybe some additional fibre.
I think the essential powder currently is the cheapest product on the market.
Unflavoured/Unsweetened is a flavour that relatively few other companies offer, but especially long term customers seem to prefer it. For occasional users more flavour options are better, so maybe it would be a good idea to just offer this “base flavour” and a large variety of flavour additions. Just in a more convenient form than flavour powders, e.g. some form of liquid, This would still be very convenient, and could be used in other products too, so it should be a success - or what do you think?
We used to offer powdered flavour boosts but Hueligans preferred the already flavoured powders. I think people prefer a variety of flavoured products and this will continue to be our focus.
OG customer here, I’ll never completely believe this, maybe new customers that want something specific, but it was so much easier (and cheaper) to have one bag of huel and ten small bags of flavours in my cupboard than it is to have ten 2kg bags open.
Thanks for the feedback, Tristan! For most product removal we base it off the data we’ve collated and feedback is given we also combine this with sales figures for the product to reach a result. If we do find a substantial amount of suggestions to bring this back then there would be conversations had about this.
We don’t currently have plans in place for this, but it would be great to hear what flavours you would like to see us bring out for essentials so I can pass this on to our product team.
You would think that I’d Huel is going back to basics with essential, one without added sweetener/flavour would be as basic as you could hope for and I don’t see why this isn’t feasible. There must be operational reasons for it.
Welcome to the forum, Tim! Hope you enjoy your stay
As the name suggests, we only have the essential flavours being chocolate and vanilla (based on demand), however, I will pass your suggestion on to our product dev team, as I can see how U&U would fit into the range.
The website states that
400kc of Essential provides 13% of RI, but
2000kc of Essential provides only 35% of RI.
Must be a typo, as should be 65% shouldn’t it?
