Has anyone tried the One Meal a Day (OMAD) diet? I’m curious about the benefits like weight loss, improved focus, and simplified meal planning, but also concerned about risks such as nutrient deficiencies, blood sugar spikes, hunger, and fatigue. What has your experience been with OMAD? Is it sustainable long-term? Would love to hear tips on how to do it safely or if more moderate intermittent fasting methods worked better for you. Let’s discuss!
I did OMAD for a year before it had a name, almost 30 years ago. I was going through specific circumstances as well and sleeping during the day, so take my experience with a pinch of salt.
I lost most of my hair (this could be stress) I went from 85Kg to 65Kg and I looked ill or so they told me. I wouldn’t recommend it, at least not every day.
My family and I have been practicing time-restricted eating for over a decade. For us, it’s a spectrum—most days we fall somewhere between the Warrior’s Diet (20:4) and One Meal a Day (23:1), with frequent 4.5:2.5 patterns and occasional prolonged fasts a few times each year. It’s been effortless: no problems, just more energy, sharper focus, and a huge time saver. We’re not doing it for weight loss; our priority is maintaining a balanced diet and a rhythm that fits our lifestyle.
I wouldn’t do omad regularly as I’d never be able to eat enough calories and nutrients in one meal for an extended period. I do omad once a week tho for cleansing and spiritual reasons.
I prefer to do intermittent fasting where I am eating what I would normally eat on a day with a smaller window of eating so my body has an extended time to digest and detox on a day to day basis
