Hi everyone,
Rice (specially the one from certain regions) have arsenic. I would like to know where does the brown rice included in Huel come from - and, if possible, how many micrograms of arsenic are contained by 100g of Huel.
Give me a bit, I’ll be posting the sources and amounts of heavy metals in the ingredients from Huel soon, hopefully this week!
Update: was told I won’t have them until Monday and I’m off on holiday on Monday. I will try and get them to put them all up around this time, but sorry if I can’t do so.
This week, Monday, Tuesday… It is okay either way . The important thing here is the rapid response and the certainty we will get an answer.
Eager to read your answer and enjoy the holiday
Haha, quick question before Monday: should we be worried? I’m guessing if you guys thought there’d be any problems then you’d have gone with a different supplier, but thanks so much for sharing - transparency is key when dealing with a single (or nearly single) source of food
"4. Brown rice protein is NOT the same as brown rice or rice.
To clarify, brown rice protein is a powder derived from brown rice—but they are not the same. When the protein content of brown rice is extracted and purified, most of the other nutrients are “lost.” As the name implies, this food ingredient is a concentrated protein powder, thus having most of the starch (carbohydrates), sugar, fats and even some of the minerals removed."
Also it is highly likely that the same process as below is used to extract the protein
"5. Arsenic is dissovable by water and easily removed from food products like rice protein.
Arsenic is one of those minerals, and it happens to be dissolvable by water (1). Since our rice protein extraction process is heavily water-based, most of the arsenic gets washed out and amounts in the resulting protein powder are considerably less than the starting rice grains."
Hi there, thank you for a great product. I was just looking for information on arsenic and other heavy metals in Huel, but apart from a couple of promises from the team, nothing was published yet.
Do you still plan to share the documents or more data on this? I’m 4 months pregnant and would like to know exactly what I am consuming. I saw a comment from @JamesCollier that the amounts are below safe levels but still wonder why nothing was published since August when the discussions took place. Or maybe the info was published - can you please direct me? Thanks in advance!
We had two reports done recently. We didn’t post them before because, we’re working on a bigger report and these are part of that, but as you guys are requesting them now, here they are:
I tend to mix 100g of Huel with about 500ml of water, so in 1 liter of mixed there is aprox 200g = 0.2kg of Huel. So;
Arsenic = 0.0032mg/L -> Safe level is 0.01mg/L
This is just fine then.
Per day Huel recommends 500g of Huel;
Cadmium = 0.0325mg -> Safe levels is 7mg per kg body weight per day -> 525mg for a 75kg human.
This is a negligible level.
