Sickness

Hi all so I have recently started huel and did a month with no ill effects and everything was working out just lovely. However to the day when I received my second order, I was very ill to say the least and I don’t think I will ever be able to trust a fart again. I hadn’t changed the amount, time or way I consumed my huel but the effects on my body were quite horrid, cramps and diarrhea stopped sleep and all trust in my ability to venture too far from the toilet. Are there such things as bad batches because this is bad. I had a break from huel over a weekend and got right again only to test the water today and find myself doubled up on the bog once more. Looking for some help here hopefully from the team at huel. Cheers

The adverse effects only came at repeated exposure? This would be quite characteristic for an allergic reaction. Is there some ingredient that you normally never consume?

Did you consume anything else? Artificial sweeteners, especially sugar alcohols like sorbitol? Were/are you on a 100% Huel diet?

Is it possible that you had an infection/gastroenteritis? Did someone in your closer environment have similar issues?

Keep in mind that flaxseed is sometimes used as a laxative - depending on the amount of fluids you drink it can both cause diarrhea and constipation(*). It also contains phytoestrogens called lignans, It can also interact with some kind of drugs like NSARs and diuretics.

Of course it could also have been a bad batch. I am sure you will get a new one if you contact someone from the team. Usually they are very helpful and customer-friendly.

If that does not help you might consider using a different Huel product (ready to drink seems to contain less fibre). Or replace part of the powder with some fibre-free alternative (e.g. 1 scoop Huel and 1 scoop protein powder instead of 2 scoops of Huel powder).

Hi I had used the vanilla white huel 2 bags of, over a month ish without anything like this. New order of 2 bags came and I have tried both bags with a gap inbetween and both put me firmly in the bog by the evening with cramps and bloating as a little bonus to the main party. The only thing that Is different is the the 2 new bags of huel which are the same as my previous order.

So I have tried my batch of huel on a friend of mine who also is a regular huel user as a guinea pig to see if it was just me. My guinea pig has just returned from the toilet to report similar experience to me, let’s hope forewarned is forearmed in regard to trusting farts. Anyone from the huel team care to comment, as a little help would be appreciated.

That sounds as if it just may be a bad batch. Unopened bags can be sent back; if you want to return an opened bag you should directly contact someone from the team, for example by sending a private message to a team member.

Hi All, after testing Huel Powder i got exactly the same symptoms as described by Matt. At the begining i could believe it was all caused by Huel- so unfortunately i repeated testing it tree times- with few days gap- and the same each time- diarrhea, vomiting, headache. Something must be wrong with this product… @Matt have you receieve any answer from Huel Team? I also email them, i belive this should be investigated deeper.

Hi Marc, I got a replacement bag sent and a 50% refund on the other bag. I haven’t plucked up the courage yet to try the new bag, waiting until I have a day where I am not far from a toilet. 2ish me luck.
