Toxic ingredients confirmed

Dear Huel,

I have just swallowed & ingested less than 100ml of your Huel Banana product and it made me IMMEDIATELY feel VERY unwell

I experienced ‘burning’ as I swallowed, it felt as though there was something sharp in my throat followed by an immediate drastic change in my perception; dizziness, nausea, impaired vision AND a long, PAINFUL episode of stomach pain lasting approximately 30 - 40 minutes .

A Google search confirmed the ingredient “Tapioca” in your product is dangerous as it is potentially extremely toxic..

… From the “Cassava plant which contains Linamarin”… a Cyanogenic Glycoside that when broken down by the enzymatic process in the body becomes Cyanide..

I took the products back to the Tesco Supermarket I bought them from and whilst they discussed calling an ambulance and speaking with their Legal department, they mentioned I should contact you about what has happened.

Regards,

David.

Pass me my tinfoil hat, Satan. There is work to be done

A quick Google found this response from Gemini:

Tapioca products are essentially cyanide-free because the tapioca starch production process removes most of the cyanogenic glycosides found in cassava, the plant from which it’s derived. Cassava roots naturally contain these compounds, which are precursors to cyanide, and proper processing, including soaking, leaching, fermentation, and thorough cooking, is crucial to reduce toxicity in other cassava-based products. While fresh cassava or improperly processed cassava can be toxic, tapioca flour and tapioca starch are considered safe for consumption due to the extensive processing that eliminates the cyanogens.

Sounds like there’s more Cyanide in an apple seed than in Tapioca starch.
