Less water does not really help with the texture. JJ uses extremely finely milled oats for some odd reason and that’s the main reason why the Plenny shake doesn’t feel like a meal.
No, they’re both the standard/core products, it’s a fair comparison. Comparing JJ Active to Huel Black Edition would be the right comparison in my opinion.
We don’t compare taste or texture as that’s subjective so irrelevant to our comparison article.
I can see where you’re coming from and at the end of the day it is one opinion over another, so you’re not wrong.
Likely because most people don’t really understand the importance of the sugar/fibre ratio and only focus on sugar content Long story short, there’s no issue with sugar in JJ or Huel.
Nothing makes Huel or Jimmy Joy objectively better than the other in my opinion - they are both extremely close to each other, launched soon after Soylent, and have both fed millions of people - both brands know what they’re doing.
Subjectively there are lots of points for each. One big win for Huel is next day delivery in the UK, a big one for JimmyJoy is how much easier it is to mix and match products.
Do you think it is healthier to use both to get the best out of everything? The ingredients are a bit different, so maybe this adds variety, which may be benefitial on a liquid diet. Or do you think this won’t make much of a difference?
Well, variety’s the spice of life
The ingredients are not that different, though. But depending on the sources the nutritional content may vary. I am just looking for the healthiest way to live on a liquid diet…
I personally eat both JJ and Huel since 2 years
I like to vary. Texture and taste are really different
I prefer the texture and taste of plenny shake active vanilla. I much prefer the price tag of JJ products… huel has became more and more expensive and less and less tasty to me (I was a huge fan of the 2 version)
Huel is too sweet for me and I am unable to swallow the u&U version (I hate the taste). I usually use huel for breakfast (in France we eat sweet at breakfast) and jj for my other needs (I eat 35/40% powder food / 60/65% regular food).
The products I like at huel are the bars. They really taste good to me. I consider those bars as snack (so not perfect nutrition dur to sugar amounts). I don’t like JJ bars. But I may stop buying some: the more I see huel posts on social network, the more want to stop buying huel products
What is wrong with Huel posts on social networks?
Interesting, since I found the bars to be by far the best part of their lineup. They’re 400kcal, and have what I think is the right consistency - tough enough to be filling, but still chewable. Huel bars felt like chewing on a brick to me. (Both are fairly tasty, so no issue here).
The shakes, OTOH, were disappointing - they lack texture and thickness compared to Huel and taste more like flavored milk than a meal. Pots are hit and miss - the cajun pasta is pretty good, though.
Are you comparing the Plennybar (not the discontinued Twennybar) with a Huel bar v3.1 here? The new Plennybar’s are teethbreakers and are very dense. The 3.1 Huel bar is much softer.
We need a bar deathmatch at some point. Science demands blood!
I think the main advantage of JJ bars is that they have double the size for the same prize. For many people this might be an important aspect.
What I am considering is mixing JJ and Huel 50:50. The one thing that JJ contains and that is missing in Huel is soy, which is said to contain lots of phytonutrients, polyphenols and flavonoids. The rest of the ingredients seems to be pretty similar, except some antioxidants that are added in Huel but not in JJ. Would you rather use regular Huel or Black Edition for that purpose (especially with regard to the texture, which shouldnt be too watery)?
Wow, depends on the comparison you read is a different story… I haven’t tried JJ … according to them it’s 80% cheaper than huel per 2000 K, being the price 5.95euros vs 9.10 euros… according to huel website per 400Kcalories the price is £1.10 vs £1.32 … and so on with the rest…
Data has so many interpretations that at the end of the day can be misleading…
I personally trust more Huel as I care more the formula than the taste or texture, as I drink a lot of huel.
I want to believe I’m investing in health rather than other factors that for me are not very important.
I’ll tell you what makes Huel better than Jimmy Joy, and it is quite simple really - I mean the answer, not the person I’m about to mention.
It’s having @Tim_Huel on the forum. During the covid pandemic, he’s not been able to go to the pub so much and has only had 27 holidays since March. He works tirelessly and without losing his sense of humour when all around him are arguing about caffeine.
I hope he is getting a decent Christmas bonus - a few bottles of Jimmy Joy, some Jake soup and some Plenny bars would be right up his street.
He grafts hard, and is well worth the
effort of posting
Haha thanks mate, appreciate the love! It’s true, I will be rolling over more holiday than usual in 2020 when most years I’m haggling with the People team try to get more.
Perhaps we need a round up, Spotify-esque, of all the best moments on the forum. We can tot up how many posts I didn’t have anything valuable to add because @Phil_C just answered them. The number of terrible puns @hunzas made and how many times @coup rolled his eyes in writing!
@ hunzas:
You’re trying to be sarcastic? Unfortunately it didn’t work.
Different customers, different preferences…the forum is the best proof for that.
One problem I see with Huel now is the Brexit, and what it going to cause.
@Tim_Huel I’d respond in a meaningful and grateful way, but I just got back from seeing WW84 and my brain has been diminished to the point of catatonia.
Stick around pal. I’m sure we’ll be friends. It wasn’t aimed at you but at a typical forum scenario - it’s the first one that sprang to mind. It could have been about scoops, fluoride, probiotics or pub meals.
Brexit is all Huel’s fault anyway. They wanted it, we got it.
