I have been using Huel for a year now and I love it.
Though I would prefer to buy an organic Huel version instead if that was possible. And go all the way regarding being kind to the environmental (but without losing the convenience). No toxic chemicals in my food and my body and no toxic chemicals in the farming, in our nature and our planet. Wouldn´t that be great??
Has Huel considered that? Maybe as at test version for a period? I would so love that <3
I hope there will never be an organic version of Huel. Huel is powered by science.
Love that you are long-term Huel fan Susanne!
We don’t create an organic version for a few reasons. One of them is cost, organic is far more expensive. There is an organic, nutritionally complete powdered food product out there; it’s called Ambronite: however, it costs £7.53 per 500 calories whereas Huel costs £1.60 per 500 calories. That is nearly 5 times the price of Huel and that doesn’t fit in with our mission to provide affordable nutritionally complete food.
It has been suggested that organic foods are more nutritious than their conventional counterparts. However, the evidence is far from convincing in this area: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22944875 and https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23090335
Another important topic is pesticides. It’s a common misconception that organic farming does not use pesticides. They certainly do and they can actually be more harmful; give copper sulphate a quick search. Organic pesticides are those that are derived from natural sources and processed lightly (if at all) before use. It has nothing to do with their safety. Don’t worry though all pesticides, whether organic or not, are rigorously tested and regulated to ensure their safety for the use in foods for human consumption. On top of this, you can also see our own quality controls and pesticide reports here: https://uk.huel.com/pages/food-safety-and-quality-controls
There are of course benefits to organic foods such as better animal welfare. However, in the context of Huel, we feel there are more benefits by choosing conventional ingredients.
I’ve tried Ambronite and it’s not great.
There are cheaper organic smart food meals. I’ve bought stuff from Feed. before and it’s pretty good.
