I have breakfast at 07:20 and I feel better, like more awake with more energy and more important, I dont feel as hungry at 15:00 when I have my meal. How is this possible? Huel is supposed to be better in the energy distribution and the calories are higher in the Huel breakfast @JamesCollier any idea?
Huel: 3 scoops + 510 ml water
New breakfast: 1 egg with fried iberian ham (jamon ibérico) + 280 ml milk
Your question isn’t very clear.
I think you are you saying, you have been consuming Huel for a number of months, but have now stopped consuming Huel (?) and are finding that you are now able to go longer between meals.
If this is the case, I would suggest it is possible that your ‘clean’ and low GI diet (ie Huel) has improved your insulin resistance and overall health, meaning that you no longer get sugar crashes and hunger cravings like you maybe did before.
I thought the question implied that he feels more energetic and less hungry eating egg and ham rather than Huel, despite the fact that Huel is supposed to be better in energy distribution. and calories.
She edited the question since I answered…
So my comment is answering something different
Okay, with the new question, it looks like swapping Huel for ham and eggs and milk:
Protein and fat (ie Ham and egg) actually is digested even slower than Huel.
It’s hard to say for sure - we are all different and our constitutions are better suited to different things.
Personally if I ate meat for breakfast I would feel like a slug for the rest of the day. My digestion can’t seem to cope with anything that isn’t porridge or Huel or cornflakes and plant milk for breakfast. A full English would wipe me out.
But I know plenty people who need protein for breakfast and find carbs in the morning makes them hungry by 10/11am
@airiartev maybe try Huel for lunch instead of breakfast, if it doesn’t suit you first thing in the morning.
It could be that you need hot food in the morning. Lots of people struggle with digesting cold food for breakfast especially if it’s eaten as early as you are having yours (7am ish)
There’s some good evidence behind warm / hot / cooked food being easier to digest.
Some people have such strong systems they can digestive almost anything.
But it is quite a common thing to struggle with cold breakfast especially very early in the morning - digestion can be sluggish in the first couple hours of waking in the morning. And warm food or drink can ‘light the digestive fire’ so to speak.
Try drinking a cup of warm water prior to your cold Huel, or try out what @Africorn does - Mix the Huel in a small amount of water, then top up with hot / warm water (don’t shake at this point!!! Just stir) It’s actually fairly pleasant to drink warm.
My favourite warm Huel recipes:
Peanut butter in unflavoured
Water infused with Chai teabag plus Original
Hot chocolate Huel (or mocha)
Matcha and Original
Spiced Golden Coconut milk plus UU
Always best to mix Huel into cold water then add hot and stir. Or mix with warm water in a blender
I put 400 ml cool/cold water, two scoops of Huel, shake, then top up to 700 ml with hot water and shake again. I’ve never had a problem with an explosive shaker…
Haha yeah although diving into water first thing in the morning would get your digestion going pretty fast as well
I always get ravenous after swimming
