Bought a bag of chocolate Huel to try but it’s too sweet for me - anyone in Berlin want to purchase or swap for a bag of vanilla?
I’ve only had 3 scoops out of it so pretty much full
I’m not in Berlin so don’t want to swap…
But I highly recommend you give it another go. I also didn’t like it the first few times I tried it, but with a little bit of experimentation, it’s actually reeeeally nice !
Try the following recipe:
- 350ml cold water
- 3 scoops chocolate huel
- 2 or 3 teaspoons of raw cacao powder (not the flavour boost, just regular cacao - it reduces the sweetness a lot)
- Shake well
- Add 300ml of Oatly Barista oat milk (or plant milk or dairy milk of your choice, but ideally one that reduces rather than increases the sweetness)
- Shake well again
- Refridgerate for a minimum of 4 hours (this reduces the sweetness even further, improves the texture and flavour immensely)
Bare in mind that some plant milks (eg Alpro) contain gums so will make it very thick. If you find it too thick, change the ratio of water to milk. If you prefer it very thick, you can purposely choose a milk that will thicken it.
Personally, I think oat milk works best with chocolate huel, but experiment with a few until you find something you like.
Coconut milk and hazelnut milk are worth trying as well because they add a different dimension to the flavour.
Weirdly, the chocolate huel becomes VERY addictive after a while. I persevered with my bag only because I didn’t want to waste it, despite really hating it initially. By the time I had finished the bag I needed to buy another
It definitely needs cacao and milk and refrigeration though to improve the flavour and texture.
Give it another few goes.
Honestly, it’s really good once you get the mix right
Also works well with either cinnamon or desiccated coconut
