First week on Huel - bad stomach cramps/gas/bloating - Any fix?

Hmm, good question. So the actual mixing and consumption was fine. I’m used to oat and whey shakes so getting Huel down was no biggy.

I found that energy and focus were the same with no noticeable negative effects. Gym was also energetic and rewarding.

For the first few days I found it strange how few bowel movements I was having - Then it hit me. Around a week in a had horrendous cramping and pain and literally had to dash for the loo. It took around 15 minutes and literally drained me. Truly horrific. Since then I’ve been regular and consistent, so I guess it’s just adaptation.

I did find that cravings were pretty bad though…

I’ll be going back to 100% this week for the next month or two in a cutting phase, at around 2000cal per day.

Seems a common thread when you first go 75-100% Huel. I had about 3 days of similar then all back to normal. For me it was the smell I couldn’t get over LOL

I’d be happy with 3 days!

I am not buying HUEL ever ever again! Who on their sense of mind buy a drink that would cause them nausea, diarrhoea, gases, headache, and heartburn?

Hmm… brand new account, resurrects a 6 year old topic about negative effects. No context, nothing about your own personal experiences, nothing to say you’ve ever used huel before. Intriguing. :mag:

Thanks @Herbivore for prompt reply and interest. I have recently purchased HUEL complete meal, and have been in touch with your team re. the negative effects it had on me in less than 12hrs. However no response, interesting to see a prompt reply!
It have caused me nausea, stomach ache similar to an intoxication, headache and diarrhoea.

FWIW this is a forum mainly populated by Huel consumers (and a few Huel members of staff when not in holiday/in the pub).

@Herbivore is just a consumer not staff, and so am I. No doubt the team will get back to you in good time.

Sorry to hear you are not enjoying the experience.

it’s also worth pointing out that Huel is a high fibre food and that many new users also get bloating symptoms - its important you make sure you are also taking plenty of water to keep hydrated as dehydration will cause headaches and if you’re getting diarrhoea with the sudden change in fibre intake, this will also make and dehydration worse. Similarly, if you have any history of IBS like symptoms, you would need to introduce Huel into you diet slower than usual.

A cork may help

Hey Juan, really sorry to hear that you’ve had troubles with your first try of Huel. Could you share some details on how you’ve been consuming Huel (how frequently, how large are you portions, which products have you tried?). With this we can help give you some advice on how to proceed.

However, it is worth noting that this isn’t a customer experience channel, it is a community forum filled with Hueligans who are customers just like you. Most of the conversations here are made between customers (sorry, I hate that word), not with staff.

If your question requires a response only from the Huel staff then you would be best of heading here and either emailing, whatsapping or messaging through one of the other mediums.

Also, sorry to be a bore, but just got my admin hat on today. In general, it is bad forum etiquette to bump up old posts. I’ve written some information, which would have been at the top of your page when you signed up to the forum, about the do’s and don’ts of necroposting! Hope that’s helpful and can you navigate your way around the forum and chat with others!

I have been using Huel for 9 months. I constantly had this problem and had to take Gasx tablets to help with the issue. I consume all of the Huel products, 2 shakes a day was normal for me.

I decided to switch the shake to a different brand that was Soy based. All my problems instantly went away. I still do enjoy the shake mix, just as a snack, 1 scoop/day. I also eat the Bars and HS meals without issue.

I believe that their is something in the mix that my body is not happy with. Just the way food is for me.

Huels staff is great I would take their advise and cut back and see how things go for awhile.

Rennie deflatine or Andres may offer some relief.
