Hot & Savoury Pots melting

I just tried one of the Hot & Savoury pots, the ones that come in a disposable cup. And my cup basically melted after adding water. The instructions asked for boiling water, so I can’t imagine my water was too hot.

What could I be doing wrong?

If all else fails, I can transfer the contwnt of my disposable cup to my old reusable cup, bu that kind of defeats the purpose.

You might try reducing the water temperature and increase the cooking time. Maybe put a towel over the pot to reduce cooling, especially when the ambient temperature is low.

Do you mean it actually disintegrated or just got a bit malleable? I only ever decant mine into the huel meal pot or a third party flask never used the pot or comes in…I did use the original paper pots but they were inadequate for the job.

It kind of imploded in on itself, completely scrunched together. I had to transfer the meal to a bowl because there wasn’t enough space left. This is a (very thin) plastic pot by the way.

That sounds bad. Like you say, it defeats the purpose if the pot isn’t up to the job.

That’s definitely strange. They’ve obviously tested them with the heat of boiling water so that shouldn’t really happen.

And you’re not going to heat water any hotter than it should be capable of holding with a domestic kettle and/or microwave.

I agree though it’s very thin plastic.

This sounds super scary, sorry about this!

Do you have a temperature option on your kettle as the water could potentially be warmer than usual?

It’s designed to be consumed in the pot, so this is the last thing we want you to do. Can I ask if this is the first time that this has happened?

Thanks for replying, Mark!

My kettle does not have a temperture option but it turns off automatically when the water starts boiling.

This was the first time I tried the Hot & Savoury disposable pots.

Water can’t* get hotter than 100ºC, so it can’t be that. Might be a faulty pot.

*Physicists, don’t @ me. I don’t think Tina is using a pressure cooker.

seems most likely as domestic kettles dont boil all the water in them anyway,

Well, I have a positive update
So I gatherd all of my courage  and just tried a second pot. And it didn’t melt down. I’m sure I didn’t do anything different this time around, so it was probably just a fluke.

Mark, I will reach out to you (or rather, my husband will, since the order was on his account) if anything else goes wrong. Fingers crossed!
