“this year” is actually sooner than I would have guessed!
Oh well, we have the drink, so that’s the main thing.
The powder is for me essential. Much more geeky than a bar. I surely will taste the bar, but after that, I’ll stick with the powder.
Interesting. I use the drink but pretty sure I won’t go to twice a day Huel usage until I have something chewable.
You could try baking something solid yourself?
Thanks, yes going to try some cookies this week, I saw a nice recipe in another thread.
Damn, the Dutch have beaten us to it!
Can anyone make any nutritional comment on this? Tempted to try, whilst Huel is releasing theirs.
I have ordered 10 bars (5 chocolate, 5 vanilla) the first hour of the sale, I think I will receive them tomorrow!
I’ve ordered 15 Twennybars (5 banana, 10 chocolate) to try out while waiting for the Huel versions.
After ordering I’ve read that each of their Twennybars, which are supposed to provide 20% of a daily target amount of 2000 kcal, actually contain 387 kcal. Hmm, maybe the Dutch are not very good at maths.
@raymondal Let us know how you get on with them.
@eldrin I seem to remember the original version of Joylent was a little under 2000 calories.
I must admit, I am tempted to try it myself. Hopefully Julian and James won’t mind us using their forum to share our experiences. After all, there’s nothing wrong with a bit of healthy competition. It also gives us something to compare to if (when?) the Huel bars eventually get made.
I’ve eaten Trek and Nakd bars a lot in the past. Really convenient to have in your pocket when you’re out and about for if you get hungry.
Still, Huel has come along way in less than a year. Great tasting meal drink, flavour packs, unflavoured version, subscription service, gluten free version. The only way is up
387 × 5 = 1935.
OK, 1935 kcal, it’s not exactly 2000, OK, ok… But even a first year student in nutrition science knows that calories are a thing very VERY tough to handle, especially when you use real foods like grains or nuts. I’m pretty sure that almost no Twenny Bars is exactly 387 kcal. All these figures are average measures.
My main concern about the Twenny bar is that it contains milk.
Yes, indeed, it’s a curious thing that they shot for an average of 387 in each bar instead of an average of 400 in each bar.
Thank you, though by “nutritional comment” I meant more like someone looking at this picture and thing giving an authoritative statement about it…
Well the thing is that if you go down the road of convenient healthy food, which we have already done using huel powder, the huel bars are a healthy distance ahead of the powder in convenience.
I would never try joylent powder as it seems not as healthy as huel powder but I have ordered 30 twennybars and I’ll be posting here my observations. I hope huel moves quickly forward with a solid option as I trust them much more in terms of macro ratio and ingredients selection.
Also does anyone know if the percentage of the listed micronutrients in solid soylents is before or after the cooking?
Well, Julian said above that he wants a Huel bar too, and hopes to have one available sometime this year, but there are difficulties with getting it made.
I received my Twenny Bars this morning. I ate one of the chocolate ones immediately as I was eager to try it out. I thought the taste was quite pleasant – it’s not a very strong flavour, but it’s nice enough. From what I’d read, some people had spoken of them being quite heavy/substantial but I didn’t really find that to be the case. Eating the whole thing quickly was very easy. Immediately afterwards I thought I’d be hungry again almost right away, but that was roughly 3 hours ago and only now am I starting to feel like eating something again.
So a good first impression. I’ve still got the banana flavoured ones to try.
I am envious, I placed the order more than 2 weeks ago
