Hi, hopefully someone can give me some advice.
I have achalasia and I’m having surgery on the 4th of December and need to go on a liver shrinking diet 2 weeks before this date.
With having to go onto a very low calorie diet to shrink my liver before surgery. is the Huel black edition ready to go drinks suitable twice a day with maybe a small intake of fat free yogurt. I will of course check with the nurses at my pre op but I would like to order extra on my next order just incase this plan is suitable.
Thanks for any advice given.
The important thing to remember is that Huel is simply food. In the case of black edition Huel it’s a meal lower in carbs than yer average meal while being high in protein. If you eat 2000 calories’ worth of Huel, then you’ve had all the micronutrients (vitamins, etc) that you need for a day. If, for some reason, you eat less than those 2000 calories, then your diet will be slightly deficient in those micronutrients, but nothing that’s going to make a huge difference over the course of a few weeks.
Huel black is an excellent way of holding back on the carbs; for example, it helps enormously with my diabetes control. In the early days of Huel I sat with a doubting dietician while she went through the nutritional values of Huel. She ended up saying that she wished she could prescribe it.
Best of luck with your surgery…

Oh boy, we’ve got everything crossed that the surgery goes to plan with no problems!
As you’ve mentioned, it’s really important to get confirmation from your doctor or surgical team that Huel is suitable for you given your condition. If so, perhaps our new Huel Lite could be a good option here. At just 190 calories per serving, it’s more concentrated in vitamins and minerals to help you meet your body’s nutritional needs despite a lower overall energy intake.
Keep us posted what they say and if there is anything else we can help with
