I slipped off the bandwagon, I was plannning on edging up to 100% instead went about 4 days no Huel at all.
Has anyone noticed a strong aftertaste that lasts a long long time?
Anyway for now I am going to aim just to at least eat Huel every morning for breakfast since all my life I have never been a breakfast eater and I am aware that isn’t good for you and if I take it for lunch as I plan to do tomorrow then that is a victory.
Work situation and trying to acclimatise to a new habit really didn’t help and I did find myself with ordinary food cravings mainly due to stress I think.
Buying the blender was a huge deal though for me Huel is basically a totally different experience blended, I would never try shaking it again. Its horrible shaken in comparison and pleasant when blended. I know others don’t experience that.
And I’m off to Asda now to pick up the ingredients a fella posted the other day to make Huel Protein bars.
Hi Peter, sorry you are getting an aftertaste. Have you tried chilling Huel with ice or refrigeration? I agree that blending is great though, however if you try this method of shaking you shouldn’t have any issues:
400ml cold water
- 3 scoops of Huel
- three ice cubes
- a teaspoon of coffee granules (optional)
- shake hard for 10-20 seconds
- top up via the spout with another 200ml of water and re-shake
This should significantly improve your experience! Let us know how the Huel bars go!
Thanks mate, yeah I’ve chilled it and its not an awful aftertaste mind!
And I appreciate the advice on shaking it but the blender is so effortless and so much better I’m going to run with that.
FYI for anyone reading this the blender was 15 quid from asda and it came with 2x600 mil containers which just happen to make great Huel carriers.

Hi, Have you tried adding milk to the huel? It worked for me, no aftertaste! I would also say that if you don’t generally eat breakfast then don’t start. Everyone’s bodies are different and trying to make your metabolism fit in with what’s ‘right’ is not a good idea. I never eat breakfast unless I’m hungry? Which is around 20 times a year. Good luck.
