NEW Huel Essential Powder for just £1 a meal!

Funnily enough as I posted my comment above another one appeared to prove what I stated.

Did you notice too that whenever the AHDB is spending any of their media budget on the We Eat Balanced campaign (pushing meat and dairy as a sustainable food choice (how did that claim ever get passed the ASA?)) the amount of ‘pro’/brand trollers on here goes through the roof?. Usual form - join up or resurface from long dormant accounts to post handfuls of hyper critical or incorrect information - then never seen again. I’m sure that’s just a coincidence….

I’ve just had my first essential vanilla for lunch. I agree with all of the above. I really like the taste, and it is very oaty which I like (ready break taste is even more noticeable than original).

I think it’s a little thinner than Huel white but I did actually just make it and drink it after a short time rather than refrigeration over night. I have made another for tomorrow.

I also bought a bag of chocolate. I wasn’t going to but after @epicure review thought worth a punt.

I also see that (to my knowledge) it’s the first Huel product that has made use of the vegan society :sunflower: mark. Would be interesting to see why Huel chose this product to launch that.

Glad I wasn’t too far off base with my first impressions, hunzas.

Hope you like the chocolate as much.

I agree about the relative thinness, or maybe lightness. Perhaps creamier too, slooshing out the dregs from the shaker with a bit more water makes a good froth. Maybe a bit less prone to lumps?

I don’t generally tend to get any lumps these days. I did in early versions of Huel white but think it’s become more easily mixable in just a shaker now, although if I want a smoother texture I will blend it on occasion.

Right, I’ve just had my lunch of vanilla essential powder that I refrigerated overnight.

Interestingly it thickened up quite considerably to the one I drank fresh. I expected it to thicken somewhat but it did so more than I imagined.

Even more interesting was the fact that I thought it didn’t taste as good as freshly made. It seemed to have lost some of the delicious oaty flavour. It was also less sweet. I normally drink my Huel refrigerated over night and it tastes better than freshly made, but this didn’t. It wasn’t bad by any stretch but a bit more bland.

Hey y’all happy new year.

Can anyone tell me if the essential mixes better than black powder, which no matter what I try comes out lumpy and I can’t abide the consistency.

If essential is more smootherer I might be back on board

We’re aiming to have the accreditation visible on all products. For Essential we managed to get the approval through quickly and there were no stocks of old packaging to use up.

I think it may be less prone to lumps, tho’ I never had much of an issue with BE, but def. worth a try.

I think you’re right hunzas. Tried both this morning and preferred the fresh. Could perhaps be down to temperature rather than time, but I’ll be making it fresh from now on. Good call! :grinning:

It’s like those people who give something 4 out of 5 on Amazon and say:

“Looks good but haven’t opened the box yet”.

I’ve been eating this for a couple of weeks now. Here’s what I reckon.

I like the ginormous bags. Impossible to read without my reading glasses though. Julian put his signature on the bag. What a nerd.

Instructions are weird ↓

  1. Add water. 2. Take a shower. 3. Shake.

The first bag had powder stuck in the zipper so I couldn’t seal it without scraping it out – a problem Huel had fixed. Took me back, it did. I pictured Dan saying “functioning zips are not Essential”. But the second bag I opened had a sealed, clean zipper so I must’ve had bad luck with the first.

Chocolate tastes very similar to v3.0…

…so I won’t order that again. I didn’t expect to like it so I ain’t mad.

Vanilla is good. Seems to have a much stronger scent than v3.0. The taste profile is different but I can’t put my finger on why. I’ll gladly subsist on this for the foreseeable future.

Thanks everyone for your reviews!

If I had my way your local courier would be delivering Essential Powder by dropping it directly into your outstretched hands.

How is it £1 a meal when a bag that makes 22 meals costs £45. And this is based on you having to have 5 meals a day when I think of 3 meals a day being the norm.

No, two bags is £45. That’s 45 meals (22.5 x2). 45 meals = £45… therefore… £1 per meal.

One meal is 400kc, inc. 20g protein. How many meals you have per day is entirely up to you. Depends on bodyweight, activity level, etc.

That’s right! If you’d like an indication of what that would look like in terms of calories per day, I would suggest looking into a Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) calculator, which will give you a good idea of how many calories you should be consuming. You can find one here :point_right: BMR Calculator

Well, I’ve just had it for dinner last nite, and I like it very much. In fact, I do not like the Vanilla 3.0, but my wife does, so we bought it thinking it would be for her only, but damn is tasty! It remains me mantecado ice cream I ate on my childhood in Venezuela, is good and isn’t that sweet as you might think.

Anyone here have tasted the Chocolate one? I just have tried Chocolate Mint 3.0 and isn’t my thing…

I like Chocolate Essential best of all, despite Chocolate and Mint Chocolate v3.0 (& BE) being my least favourite flavours. Think it’s maybe the oatiness that makes the Essential Chocolate taste so much more creamy and biscuity. Recommended!

It’s not my absolute favourite as Salted Caramel, Cinnamon and Vanilla are above, but I agree the oatiness makes it best of the chocolate iterations.

Sorry my mistake. Didn’t realise it was for 2 bags.
