NEW Huel Essential Powder for just £1 a meal!

I don’t think that’s the right approach for a product like this. A bulk discount favours people with disposable income. It also penalises people who can only afford to make the minimum order.

Captain Samuel Vimes “Boots” theory of socioeconomic unfairness

The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money. Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles. But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that’d still be keeping his feet dry in ten years’ time, while a poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.

Essentials is priced (I assume) so that everyone pays the “average-sized order” price per item. Big spenders lose out, but small spenders benefit. Good.

There is a way to have a “fair” discount scheme. For example, give us every tenth bag free. Someone orders ten bags, they pay for nine. Someone orders two bags every few months, they get one free in their fifth order. I don’t expect Huel to introduce this because it doesn’t save them money. But it’d be nice!

Great points David.

I agree that if you are already struggling you might not have the $$ to buy big.

Also, great suggestion.

Personally, I would like to see complete food as an alternative in food banks and similar. But that means you need a shaker, clean water etc… Might just be a dream

this is great

I can only afford to buy small…I only have Huel for lunch and only buy 2 bags every 5 weeks

I’ve just put this on my subscription and can instantly see the difference…I was originally getting v3 for £51…mixed it up with a Black bag one month for £54 but now with these bags I’m down to £45!

nice one Huel!

just hope it taste nice now!

yup it’s totally this!

So my maximum six bag (13.5kg) order arrived today… split between TWO boxes.

OK it’s very noticeably different. Just had a first shake of vanilla. It’s VERY oaty. Not very sweet, seems closer to 3.0 Original than 3.0 Vanilla.

Quite a surprise after Vanilla BE for breakfast… it tastes quite a lot less strongly of vanilla, and like I say very oaty indeed.

Seems like it would be good for tweaking, with a shot of coffee or chocolate or fruit or whatever other flavour additions. I’ll keep taking it straight as I really like Original and prefer less sweetness.

The matt white bags are different too, seem floppier than the glossy ones but look robust enough.

I’m really impressed with Huel moving down-market (in a good way!) with Essential. Hope lots more people are tempted to give it a go.

Chocolate to follow…

Mad I’ve had 8 delivered in one box before.

I like the sound of that very much.

Mmmmmm… CHOCOLATE!

It’s been my least favourite flavour in 3.0 and BE, just not to my taste. But Essential Chocolate is something else. The oatiness really works with the chocolate flavour, gives it a creaminess I missed in the other powders. It’s still subtle and not too sweet but really yummy. Kind of a biscuity flavour. Love it! :+1:

Looking forward to trying 50:50 next.

Sorry what powder did you test recently?

Thanks for your in-depth review as always @Latestfuels

@Dan_Huel I was sent a bag of chocolate powder to test a few week back after being contacted and answering a few questions.

White bag, looked identical except for a small round green sticker on the back and slightly different ingredients to the usual choc powder.

Filled in a questionnaire with my comments. Assuming it was a new recipe test but wasn’t sure if it was a replacement for the standard product or a new one hence the question

LOL… It’s cool Dan, just weird. I like Huel boxes anyway, use them for storage, so they never go to waste.

50:50 breakfast today. Very good, perhaps even best of all. Will have to repeat the test asap. :yum:

Fibre is good in this but more carbs and less protein seems a bit confusing to me, is it still nutritionally complete food with these ratios?

Thanks for taking part, this was a test for an existing product that is being reformulated rather than an entirely new product.

Great to hear you’re a fan!

Yeap, you can play around with macronutrient ratios quite a lot and still make a product nutritionally complete.

Thanks for the update Dan. Hopefully the reformulation won’t happen… then again maybe everyone else loved it and my taste buds are out of step

OOOH :eyes:

It’s the reformulated Mac and cheesy chocolate flavour. Didn’t you get the memo?

It’s like a pressure cooker of entitled hyperbole – you can almost hear the gears spinning up in readiness to slam whatever the new chocolate formulation is – bemoaning the loss of the old one, probably by the same folks who thought that version was the spawn of Satan

I’ve already seen grumbling about the new Mac and cheese from people who haven’t tried it. Stuff around the reduced water requirements, pasta to sauce ratio etc.

We shall have to wait and see. I’m happy to criticise if I don’t like it as much, but will at least try it first.

that’s just crazy talk…
