It’d be great if things were the same all across Europe, but for some weird reason it’s not.
I’m looking forward to getting mine. DPD have been flagging up delays in my area for a couple of days now so fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Yep, that’s why I said quantity
Yep exactly this. I compared ingredients and then price, thought that’s ok, then only realised the essential had more meals per pack on my second visit.
I’d probably only buy the vanilla. Have you tried it and If so taste/texture wise is it similar to regular Hule white vanilla?
DPD have been promising me a parcel for the last 3 days
Hi John - yes I tried the Vanilla this morning. When you open the bag, I would say the powder is more aerated than the v3 and the smell less noticeable. Drinking it, I would say it is a little thinner in texture to v3 so next time I will use a little less water or maybe add some other ingredients. Taste wise, I would say it is comparable to v3 in taste but perhaps a smidge less sweet which for me is a good thing.
For transparency - I actually mixed it in a NutriBullet. I am going under the knife on Monday and wont be able to east solids for 2 months so give the new blender a test run today,
A smidge less sweet is good for me too, as you know I usually tone down the sweetness with some uu.
I’ll order some.
I have been given a time-slot for later this morning so fingers crossed! My order was dispatched on Tuesday 13th so you can see how far behind DPD are. Not really surprising this time of year I suppose.
Edited to say, my order finally arrived so was able to try Huel Essential at last. Tastes like vanilla ice cream, sweet but not too sweet so just right for me. Texture-wise it’s a bit less smooth so would benefit from blending or standing a while before drinking. Not lumpy but more ‘bitty’. I don’t actually mind it like that so will see how it goes. First impression, good. I like it. If it is better for my gut then the ‘good’ will become ‘great’.
Awesome work team Huel!
I understand your frustration when comparing to the UK. There are differences across other product lines for different regions because of differences in shipping costs, VAT and several other factors. The profit margins between Essential and v3.0 are comparable, Essential wasn’t created to make more money out of you.
As others have said you’re comparing the bulk saving of v3.0 to Essential. Affordability is more than price per meal, something I’ve been strong a strong advocate for is the barrier to entry and resources to be able to have cheaper meals.
Having to spend over €350 to get a comparatively priced product is not feasible for many people, then there’s the issue of space too. There is so much in the media about people can have a £1 homecooked meal but all they have to do is bulk buy, which isn’t possible for many.
Ah I see, we’ll keep an eye on this to see if others have the same issue.
Hey Phil, that sounds pretty serious, hope everything is alright and all the best with the procedure. Can’t wait to hear about your explanations of Huel to the people prescribing your nutrition plan!
I’d just like to add that Huel Essential doesn’t fly around like the other powders do. Doesn’t cling to the outside of the scoop so no mess. Well that’s my experience anyway.
I’d also like to extend my good wishes to @Phil_C for his upcoming surgery
That’s interesting to see.
I will be ordering some shortly but may have to wait until new year.
Awww amazing! Just when I was discussing with my husband that we needed to cut back on Huel as it was getting too expensive. You clearly have your ear to the ground team Huel! You guys rock!
Still sucralose I was hoping that at least new products would have an improvement in that regard
Ordered yesterday, arriving today.
It’s good living really close to Tring
Not everybody thinks it’s an issue.
Is this the powder that was tested recently? I tested a bag of the chocolate and the ingredients list looks similar. Oat flour, no Kombucha etc
Well late to the party, but gotta say I’m happy to see Huel Essentials.
@Dan_Huel thanks for having pushed for this product.
This concept has always been something that I’ve advocated for, and if possible even at a more extreme level.
I would love for brands to create an entry-level powder for:
- People on very tight food budgets to get affordable but complete nutrition
- Increase awareness of complete foods
- Decrease barrier of entry
- Help those in need
That said, I do think Huel has done this for business purposes and I think it’s a great move for them:
- Brand awareness
- Acquire customers from competitors that have done similar things but cannot afford producing so low
- Create loyalty in new (and old) customers so they end up consuming other products
I think that this is a great use of their newly found capital, and I hope to see more things like this.
That said, I’m sad to see that it doesn’t translate to bulk discounts (as discussed above). I would’ve loved to see extremely competitive pricing when buying big.
