1: Better and more consistent packaging. Why does my Huel Black Edition come in a bag that’s a total pain to work in, and doesn’t come with a scoop, while Complete Protein comes in a tub that always has a scoop in it? I’m sure there’s a good reason for this, but from a consumer’s perspective it’s just annoying and confusing.
2: More consistent servings. Why does Huel come in 17 serving increments, Daily Greens comes in 30, SuperBlend comes in 19 and Complete Protien comes in 26!? How am I supposed to plan a subscription like that? It’s infuriating. I have to adjust every time my sub renews. Just make everything come in increments of 7. Then I could have a sub that renews every 28 days and I could order exactly how many meals of each I want during that period of time. Drinking Complete Protein every day? Order 4 containers. Huel for breakfast and lunch? Order 8. Easy peasy math.
Honestly the discrepancies in packaging and serving sizes makes for a very disjointed experience. It feels like I am getting multiple products from multiple companies that have just been rebranded.
Beyond that I love the idea of a Huel branded reusable airtight container and more environmentally friendly shipping materials.
TBH, not sure why the US still has CP in tubs when other markets switched to the same bag format as greens. In general, the whole program to rationalise and make the packaging more sustainable seems to have stalled/reversed (all the bags were supposed to have switched to the new mono material format by now, stopped using all over black ink on secondary packaging etc). It does make sense from a sustainability POV to have common pack formats and sizes but, as you say, that means these bags will then have different serving amounts. You can have multiple concurrent subscriptions to get around that but they would need to be enough in each to also get the free shipping/volume discounts.
The 17 meals per bag is definitely quirky. 22.5 for Essential divides better by 7 tho’ the half seems quirky too.
But I really like the pouch packaging. They stack well, stand up nicely, easy to open and reseal, robust and variously reusable.
Glad not to get a new scoop with every bag too, if that’s the suggestion.
One slight gripe is that the last lot of Black bags I got are single strip reseal instead of the usual double. Not a huge issue, but I’m wondering if it’s a permanent change.
Truth be told regarding the different products having different serving size is a question I’m asking internally because truth be told I don’t quite know the answer to that one.
Regarding point 1 though, Scoops only come with first-time orders. This is purely down to avoiding unnecessary plastic. Happy to get more scoops added to your next order or you can order them directly from our webpage. As for the complete protein tub, we’re making updates to our complete protein packaging early in the new year so watch this space. Like always we’ll be sure to keep you posted on this one!
I dont need a new scoop with each order. I’m just puzzled as to why CP comes in a tub with one every time. It really makes it feel like it’s coming from a completely different company and packaging facility. Like you’re just rebranding someone else’s protein powder. I know that isnt the case, but thats what it feels like at first glance.
So the Complete protein pots in the US have scoops in every container, this is mostly because it’s available in-store also. Our daily greens in the US also contain the scoop within the pouch just FYI.
Like I previously mentioned we’re always looking at improvements and where we can do better so this is all valid feedback
That makes sense. But PLEASE standardize on serving sizes. Or at least give more options. Right now every month, right before my sub renews, I have to do an inventory of my existing Huel products and see what I am lowest in and fiddle around with the subscription amounts, maybe push the date back a week, etc, to ensure that I have a month’s supply of everything. Again, if you sold things in 7 or 14 serving increments the math would be so much easier.
I don’t see what the issue is here. No standard serving size is going to fit everyone. I found that the 400 calorie Huel Black meal doesn’t suit me and have decided that what suits me is three 500 calorie meals per day. It fits in with my medication and works splendidly for my glucose control, keeping Nurse Diabetty happy.
I sat down with the calculator app and worked out how much Huel I eat per day, then multiplied it up to see how much I eat in a 28 day period. As a result, I always have a couple of bags in reserve should something go wrong and my Huel order goes through every month, needing a tweak maybe once or twice a year so the “emergency rations” surplus is reduced.
All I did was work out how what suits me can work with what Huel provides. It’s not that difficult…
I do this too. Calculate what I need, including a back up. Since delivery in the Netherlands is rarely perfect. And unlike UK & Ireland we can’t buy it in store.
On the “back up” note remember that it makes sense to prep for the next hurricane/pandemic/war by always having a reserve of Huel? In that context, optimising orders just means ensuring there’s multiple days’ supply in reserve, so plus or minus a few portions according to packaging really makes no difference.
