And I’m left with a pretty sharp sweet nasty aftertaste.
My first try was using the full 3g sachet,
Second attempt 1/4 teaspoon in a shake
Other attempts also at 1/4 teaspoon and they’ve all been almost palatable except for leaving me a severe sugar sweet aftertaste that I’m not sure on.
My kids have all tried the remaining amounts mixed into milk with ice and they’ve said they’re AMAZING and want me to buy the flavour boost packets just for them to use!
But I’d like to try them all again and if I did buy the big sized packets, I’d like to get use out of them as well as the kids having fancy flavoured milkshakes!
So in your opinions, what flavours do you feel leave the least sugar chemical aftertaste?
For me: (Best to worst)
(Using with New Vanilla v2.3 but willing to try another flavoured Huel if will improve flavour in future?)
Cacao
Toffee
Chocolate
Mocha
Rhubarb & custard
Matcha (I normally have matcha powder that I add to drinks everyday)
Banana (I love banana shakes and this is awful I think)
Pineapple & coconut (I hate this flavour)
Now my kids are asking for the toffee one and I REALLY want to make the banana one work… without using fresh bananas (which are delicious, but sometimes I don’t want the added calories)
So what are your opinions on the flavours and does anyone have any tips for adding them to my Huel without making me feel like I desperately need to eat something savoury straight after I’ve drunk my shake!!
Hey, that’s funny because I just tried the banana and I was going to write that I love it And I used a full test sachet in just 60gr of Huel
I guess that’s just different tastes.
So far I’ve tried only two flavours (Custard and Banana) so I can’t rank yet. I like them both, but I usually love very strong tastes and especially sweet ones. I miss savory too, though, but I’m not going full Huel so no problem in eating other savory stuff.
And btw, I’m still working to make my guts accept the change. Today I feel a bit bad, but I hope it’s only temporary.
in only 60gram???
Yeah we must have really varied tastes! Are you using the New Vanilla v2.3 Huel?
I normally have a seriously sweet tooth too, I had a haribo addiction for years whilst I was an addict. I literally only ate haribo sweets (about 4-8 big bags daily!)
Yeah I’m missing savoury loads too. I am having 2 shakes a day and a meal in the evenings, my aim tho is to go full Huel once I’ve combatted my mental block of not eating “real” food!
I hope your tummy settles down soon, I’ve luckily not had any of the dodgy upsets that others have reported, my gut is actually a lot happier as it’s used to very unhealthy foods and high fat content and my body doesn’t process any form of fat, so I’m normally on the toilet with daily, so it’s a refreshing change to not have my gut churn every 5 minutes
How long have you been taking Huel? What are your goals?
Thanks. Today it’s my 3rd day, but I just had 1 Huel meal per day. I have a very sensitive tummy too, I usually don’t eat “bad” foods but I definitely want a more complete nutrition, as I tend to eat not enough fibers and fruit.Yesterday after my shake I felt good, but then I felt swollen and after the pizza - dinner … I should have foreseen it because sometimes I have problems even with pizza alone, but hey, I’m italian and I would rather die than skip my saturday pizza! I tried Psyllium in the past but apart from being awful, it was also expensive and uneffective. On the contrary, I love Huel taste, and I love it’s easy to prepare, if I need, but it can be also “augmented” if I’m not in a hurry and I want to experiment.
My goal is to replace two meals a day (maybe breakfast with granola and lunch/dinner with the classic). I want to have a better nutrition and maybe lose 5 Kilos I got this year.
Tbh I find that flavour boosts go a lot better with Original Vanilla than New Vanilla, since new Vanilla is already pretty sweet and isn’t really a neutral base.
During 100% Huel I basically used it as a chance to experiment with the different combinations which I documented here Question: Rank your favourite Huel flavours! and am still playing around with it Interested to see which combinations work for you!
I completely agree that a full sachet is WAY too much. I’d use about 1/2 - 1/3. I pretty much agree with your ranking, except for toffee which I find much too sweet. Move it from second to last place, move rhubarb and custard to second last, and that’s my list.
I’ve not tried much of them yet but I really liked the chocolate one. I add my own flavourings aswell like banana and blueberries and chocolate powder, I’ve even tried it with ovaltine
It full sachet definitely is too much! The toffee is one of my favourites, also my daughters too. Rhubarb and custard as much as it’s not that great, is one of my favourite flavours, so I had to put it mid way!!!
Yeah I had a fresh banana and blueberry shake the other day, I wasn’t too keen myself, it was nice, but with the extra calories, it bumps it up too high for me
I’ve never liked olvaltine, I’m not a malt fan. But I do like how there’s plenty different things we can add to our shakes to mix them up!
I might go search for some other forms of flavourings to add! (Without adding too many extra calories!!)
I’ve also tried barley and a ginger herbal tea, which are both around 7 (thought better, but still ok).
As you can see, I basically liked everyone, because no flavour got a grade below the baseline. The only real surprise was strawberry: I usually love strawberry stuff (like my great white chocolate and strawberry muffins), but in this case I really didn’t notice a difference from the plain vanilla, even if I always used the full sachet in all the tests.
Next week I will order from my supermarket other fruit herbal teas and see!
