Well, you could try sieving the other varieties, but what makes sieving Mac and Cheeze work is that it is basically only three constituents: sauce powder, tomato pieces, and macaroni pieces so you can sieve it, remove tomato pieces and replace the macaroni. Other varieties have the ubiquitous seeds to remove, but they also have pieces of vegetable; and, anyway, the flaxseed oil powder is an essential part of the nutritional mix (unlike the tomatoes, I think).
I make my meal in an empty Morrisons The Best Greek Yoghurt pot: one heaped scoop of macaroni + sauce powder (mixed) with two scoops of boiling water poured over. Mix it well and cover with the lid for about ten minutes.
Cook in microwave for one to two minutes (watching in case spits too much) and stir again. If too thick, can add a little more water. I have tried flavouring with a teaspoon of Tesco Basil Pesto stirred in (before reheating in microwave).
It is quite satisfying to eat, filling me reasonably and not being too quickly processed through my system. I am on my second bag. I wonāt order any more until I have sieved the third bag.
The other night I decided it was too thin and tried thickening with some Black U&U which I think was a mistake as the texture was totally changed. I generally use the Black U&U with porridge so it wasnāt the hot water, just the texture being different.
Oh nooo! I love the thinking, makes sense really, but thatās tragic it didnāt work out. Did you power through and finish it? Or was it a write off?
The tomatoes do contribute to the nutritional profile by the way, but sure if you sieve them out itās not like youāre removing a huge amount of nutrients.
Two scoops of mac and cheeze, āAlexa, set a timer for ten minutes!ā up to the line with boiling water, stir stir stir (although itās more like stab stab stab because the bottom of the pot is so narrow). Screw the lid on. Redo it due to cross-threading it the first time. Watch youtube / scroll social media for 10 minutes. Remove the lid, generous twist of black pepper, bit more stirring/stabbing, and then itās delicious! Had it for my lunch three days in a row (and cross-threaded the lid on two of those days!) No more crunchy pasta.
I never waste food! I ate the lot! I am not exclusively having Huel, or Iād be more worried about loosing nutrients. However, if the pieces of tomato donāt sufficiently digest, and are painfully coming through recognisably through my stoma, my absorption of the available nutrients is probably minimal.
Iām not sure, but possibly the rest is absorbed better without the indigestible pieces!
Iāve now finished bag 2 but not yet opened the third bag. My husband tested positive for Covid on 30th, and I was contacted by test&trace and have just taken the PCR test they posted to me (at 1pm; and sent it back). If I am going to be ill, Iād rather not have the bag open yet.
Iām sneezing, but my temperature isnāt raised, and I am coughing a bit, so weāll have to wait and see .ā¦
Iāve been having this once a day for about 3 months now. I love it. Iām not vegan, so I know what ārealā mac & cheese tastes like and I prefer the Huel version. Iām amazed how good the taste and texture is!
I received mine about 20 minutes ago. I quickly added 2 scoops to my container. filled to the line with boiling water, added some pepper, stirred it and waited about 8 minutes. Some pasta crunch, but itās nicer than just mush. I like it! 400 kcal with another 400 later on - maybe another vessel of it. Honestly surprised and happy!
Well, I was POSITIVE! The one time when being positive is a drawback ⦠I also became quite poorly, with elevated temperature, aches and lymph nodes swollen (almost as if the test arrival gave me the symptoms!). Six months later, I am finally starting to feel more normal; but I still experience fatigue far too soon.
I ordered more before the price went up, and have just this week sieved the second of four bags ready to use.
I use a single heaped scoop-ful in my special yoghurt bowl upcycled (Morrisonsā The Best Greek Yoghurt) and pour boiling water over about half-full; stirring well!
Not completely. I had the occasional (modified*) Mac and Cheeze portion with added turmeric, black pepper and other supplements mixed in (*modified by sieving out the tomato pieces); occasional coffee caramel complete nutrition bar; but no Black U&U.
I wonāt run out for a long time at this rate. The reason I stopped H&S temporarily was because I hadnāt the energy to sieve the next bag! I keep my sieved H&S in a large screw-top container which previously held couscous. My empty 990g peanut butter tubs were just too small!
I used up the third bag of my original order of Mac & Cheeze, and the first of the 4 (received in November) but have only just sieved the next bag full. My appetite is not big.
I am still quite fatigued, and my lymph nodes are not peaceful, but I am (according to LFT) not contagious.
Had it today for the first time and like others had the crunchy so will be leaving it for 10 minutes next time as others suggested. Otherwise the taste, given itās not real cheese, is really good.
I wonder if a better seal on the pot would help it to cook quicker? Speaking of the pot I feel like I need a floodlight and a microscope to see that line. Help us out, Huel!
I ignore the fill line, just fill very generously with boiling water and stir it in, the level of the mix settles down to more or less where the fill line is. Fine tuning as preferred, but a bit too much water is better than too little I think.
Maybe a longer wait time leads to more water absorption? Lots of variables to play with.
Iām curious if this is a pot shape that is in the works or didnāt make it through testing, it looks cool, and would require less digging for your Huel H&S.
Itās not! Itās just a little crock pot/le creuset type pot made of cast iron. We wanted to make Mac & Cheeze look like it might be served in a restaurant, very often in little ramekin type side dishes, granted perhaps at slightly more gastro pubs and bars.
Cool that this shape is interesting to you! I agree it would look great!
Thanks for letting me know, it does look nice, as do the pots we have, they do look very pot noodle-y and we donāt really get to see how the food looks the our pots, for better or for worse.
THis picture does make me more excited for the Mac and Cheeze to arrive next week though!
