At the start of the week, curiosity got the best of me and I made an order which I received yesterday. Both versions taste quite good considering how healthy they are.
I agree with you Hunzas. Huel is a brilliant example of a very succesful new start company and they are so innovative and customer focussed. I’m proud of the fact I’ve been a satisfied customer from year one. I’ve rarely had a problem, just once now I think of it, where one delivery was short by one bag and they quickly sent out the missing bag.
Yes, I’ve been a customer for years and no real cause for complaint.
Received my order complete with cup and two scoops. On soaking for 5 mins find the rice a little too al dente so added a bit more water and leaving for longer. Taste is good
but definitely needs more than 5 mins to ‘cook’ properly. First attempt a bit too chewy imo.
Edit - a few hours later. I did react to the savoury Huel with some discomfort and bloating but not as bad as with some foods. Will take it slowly and see how things go.
I ordered my H&S on Wednesday at 18:20 and they arrived just after 18:00 on the Friday. Forty eight hours is incredible service. The only other company, besides Amazon, with such an incredible delivery service is Moonpig. My order was delivered by David, from DPD, and as ever, a warm friendly smile, even though it was six pm on a Friday night. This partnership between Huel and DPD works really well. Sure, I know some customers have had complaints but the majority of deliveries flow freely.
I’ve got to say, the packaging of the new H&S bags is perfect. It looks the real deal, very professional looking. I got two scoops and a cup, which was great.
Anyway, by seven o’clock last night, the kettle had boiled and I opened up the Tomato and Herb packet. It has a great scent, once you open the bag. Stir the contents around to mix all the grains and herbs and two level scoops into the cup before adding the boiling water.
Then, I was confused a little. The instruction card inside the cup said to add boiling water to the line. There are two lines, one on the outside and one on the inside, about an inch below the outside line. I wasn’t sure what line to use and then, inside one of the brochures, it said the line in the cup. So, if you are also confused, the correct line is the line inside the cup, not the outside.
Pour in the water and put the lid back on the cup and let it stew for five minutes and give it a good stir and keep stirring until it’s just the right temperature to consume. I can see why some people have said it’s like a posh pot noodle. It is, albeit a very much more healthy pot noodle. The dehydrated ingredients don’t take long to swell in size until you have a quite sizeable portion of real food.
It actually tastes great, far better than I expected. I really did enjoy it and it certainly fills you up. It’s perfect for a substantial evening meal. I usually have a Huel for breakfast and lunch and now a Huel meal at night. Three four hundred calorie meals a day without feeling hungry inbetween. That’s got to be worth considering if you are looking at nutrition and weight loss.
I’ve got arthritic knees and feet which makes walking very difficult but I’ve lost just over a stone of fat during the lockdown, eating Huel ànd a light meal at night. It would have been easy to put on a lot of weight during the lockdown so I’m chuffed to bits that I’ve lost so much weight. And my blood tests are all showing improvement in sugar and cholestorol. I’ve Huel to thank for that.
Ordered hot and savoury yesterday early afternoon and it arrived this morning at ten so hats off as usual for the fast delivery.
Just had a Thai green curry and I wasn’t really sure what to expect if I’m honest. I didn’t read too much about it since the launch. I filled just below the line as I prefer things with a thicker consistency. Left for about 7 minutes.
The verdict from me is that I really enjoyed both the taste and texture. A nice hint of chilli and a nice bite. Also it seems filling as half an hour later I do feel like I have had a pretty substantial meal.
First thoughts from me are therefore very positive and I’m happy. I can see it becoming part of my diet.
Will try tomato and herb tomorrow so hope that is as nice.
I spent probably 2 hours in total over the course of a week or two trying to order my gf some Huel, she lives in asia.
I was told you can ship to where she lives. She made an account etc.
It would not work.
Reached out to Huel via Facebook Messenger for convenience.
Was finally told you don’t ship to her country. But to make up for it.
I was shipped out for free a bag of choco mint Huel powder and 6 or 7 huel bars to try, to my address here in the UK to make up for our disappointment.
That’s what makes a company stand out from the rest in my opinion.
It’s the same reason Amazon has done so well.
OK so I tried the Tomato one and have to say I prefer the TGC. The Tomato & Herb is nice but a bit on the bland side - definitely needs some Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco or yes, Marmite, to give it a bit more punch.
Questions re nutrition @Tim_Huel
Sorry if they’ve been asked before, this is a long thread so I haven’t been able to read everything.
I wanted to ask re fodmaps. I’m guessing it’s not entirely low fodmap? I was glad to see no garlic in the Thai but the tomato and herb says there is garlic essence. Do you know if garlic essence is low fodmap in the same way that garlic infused oil is? I can tolerate that but not garlic or garlic powder. I was really hoping to be able to add this to my diet
Also, do you know the GI values? I’ve seen talk of high sugars but I know it’s more complicated than that so the GI value would be helpful for me as I have reactive hypoglycemia.
Thanks
Hi @Bee I also declined the t shirt and shaker but did receive the black mug with lid along with my order. I could have done with a new t shirt though as my original one is massive.
I’ve just had Tomato & Herb with a Massel 7s veg stock cube added. Gives it a bit more zing
totally didn’t think of that - will give it a try next time.
My timing sucks! If I’d have seen this I’d have delayed my latest RTD subscription by a few days so I could add one of the Thai Green Curry to try (assuming it only lets you add a single pouch and not one of each).
It’ll have to wait I guess as I had 36 bottles of RTD delivered on Friday and I still have two opened bags of Black (one of each), plus White bags of Chocolate, Berry, Mint Chocolate and 2 x unopened Vanilla. Oh and 3.5 boxes of bars.
Looks like it’ll be a couple of months before I get to try this as I’m pretty well stocked ![]()
Any chance of this appearing in Sainsbury’s so I could pick up one of each to try there? I’m happy to go and do stock checks for you at all my local stores again if it does. Let me know if so and I’ll be there to check up on the store managers @Tim_Huel ![]()

I have the same problem. My original shirt when I started Huel back in March looks like a poncho now. Had to bite the bullet and bought another one…2 sizes smaller ![]()
I made broccoli and mature cheddar soup for my third meal today. Perhaps that could be a H&S flavour for future consideration.
Hey Kate, Huel H&S is not low FODMAP because of the legumes, onion and quinoa.
Not yet sorry. We we will get this tested but COVID has put a big delay on this. Both flavours should have a low GI (below 55).
Re high FODMAP, I am very happy to report that in my case, any reaction to tomato & herb has been relatively mild so far, even though onion in particular can have painful repercussions, often lasting days. I can happily eat legumes in small portions but overstep that and boom!
Having said that, if I were to eat two portions of H&S in one day I suspect it may be an entirely different story.
Thanks for letting us know. Sadly the production of the Huel Pots have been severely affected by the current situation, which is why it is not available with every first time order. The pots are also not available for sale for this reason. Hopefully we can offer them ASAP but can’t right now. You can of course simply use any regular bowl for preparing yours.
The booklet has additional information in about Hot & Savoury I believe, weird that yours didn’t, and a number of other updates which is likely why you would have received it. I’ll check it out.
This is really useful feedback, thanks a lot. Also thanks for the great and detailed review of your experience!
Thank you, and just sorry we don’t ship to your GF. You’ll have to save them some!
Haha! you were excellent with that! But currently I don’t think H&S is in the right format for stores, they’d probably want a single serve portion pot. Who knows though, RTD and Bars are going well, but nothing planned iminently!
That’s a shame. I guess it’ll be a while before I get to try it then. Can’t justify placing an additional order for something I’m not sure I’ll like when the minimum is 3 bags. I’ll just have to wait a couple of months to add a bag to my next order. I know patience is a virtue - but unfortunately in this area I’m not a virtuous person ![]()
Regarding the cups I also have the same problem and didn’t receive one. Your explanation however is not very acceptable as with the marketing email it was declared that with the first order you will get the Huel Pot.
So I am still waiting to receive my Huel Pot as promised.
